RAD Around The World CUP

(Ciakgb) #321

El-Co, I’m going to pass on a lot of this arguement except one very big thing.

What makes you think you only have to win two games of a four game set? That’s preposterous. No way.

So lets recap, everything wrong with this tourney is my fault, you don’t want to play but maybe you’ll make a move every once and a while, you want draw odds, you want to toil in absolute obscurity (unless it is the next tourney), and you never pressured me to play past matches. Got it.

(Ciakgb) #322

Mitsid, you got me on tilt enough to win an unwinnable market, so don’t make me out to be so calculating. Maybe you correct your little pal there while your setting the record straight that it was you who brought up the whole Favella nonsense.

While you bring up our match, the more relevant lesson would be to have tiebreaker map in place before the match gets heated.

(Ciakgb) #323

Oh and just to note a funny el co thing, you notice he says he’s too busy to play me, but he admits he has a bunch of private matches going:). So lame…keep training, el co, you’ll never find anyone that plays like me:)

(KINONEZ21) #324

I dont want to choose sides nor get to involved in this discuccion, I belive both of you are strong players and that the best tactitian will win this tourney. I just want to point out that El-CO is right, he only needs to win 2/4 since he alreasy has one point for winning the upper bracket, therefore if the final was not played he would win with a 1-0 score on this favor. I also want to point out that Ciakgb did not just arrive to the final by luck. it takes a strong player to beat Mitsid, and I was playing poorly. He had the upper hand during our match, and it was me who dropped out of the tourney for personal issues. Ciakgb was very supporting and understanding, while EL-CO is one of the best winners I’ve encountered, he is patient and humble. (I’m sorry for letting you down EL-CO I tried my best! I’ll just have to try harder next cup to make it to the final!)

Having stated the above, I wish you luck to you both!

Nice post Kin, thanks.

Still can’t find any reference to this draw-he-wins rule anywhere. Is this some kind of soccer thing I’m supposed to know about?

[QUOTE=Ciakgb;469008]Nice post Kin, thanks.

It’s a standard rule, for upper/lower bracket system, it’s given since EL-CO is the only contestant that has not lost a single round, you have. I don’t think soccer uses it though, in fact there is no lower bracket in soccer, he would already be the winner.

You can ask Paul to be absolutely sure though

(Ciakgb) #327

Its like that time the rumor followed the Beatles–where’s Paul?

(EL-CO) #328

Don’t take me wrong. I’m currently playing several random matches with random players, just for fun. I’m testing new team, new tactics and trying to understand the update. It only takes a few minutes to play several moves as I’m trying new things and do not care much about win/lose. However, once we start the final, I would like to concentrate on it, try to consider every possible moves, LoS, etc. which will take much longer time. I will stop playing the random matches and use my limited time for the final. In short, I would like to try my best for the final. Is this funny for you?

Because that’s the way the previous tournament goes! The current tournament is basically the same with previous one except we now play with 20 pts match. However, let’s ask Paul to clarify the rule. I would like to propose to finish the tournament if there is no answer within a week. We spend a lot on this tournament already.

(Ciakgb) #329

It is a little a funny to me that you need to be so serious and focused for a match you claim isn’t a world championship and isn’t worth anyone seeing, but lets focus on the real issues.

First off, this tourney is officially for the birds in terms of its rules and administration. The last tourney appeared from the outside at least, to also be for the birds. Its funny you cite thier finals rules because wasn’t that final never played?

The more I think about it, it would be a lousy rule regardless. Sure, you lost one less match than me, but I had to play an extra round you didn’t. Why would you have a 4 game final if 2 wins for you?

I vote no more Paul in the future. As for cancelling the event if he doesn’t magically appear in the next week, it seems like the proper ending to “Waiting for Godot,” but I’m not sure for Rad Soldiers.

Just a quick note on the beta testing I did, it was like a couple of days and I mostly just played Armed random matches. I’m having to rethink my strategy on most maps just like everyone else. I could easily take another month to explore, but we should probably get a rulling here and start lobbing shells at eachother soon.

So just for the record, I say the fairest way is to play till someone gets 3 points, either repeating maps or adding a tiebreak map until we have a clear victor. Its the way Mitsid match just went, so really that precident is more “fresh” than the last tourney.

(Ciakgb) #330

Oh, and just to be extra fair, if we agree to my view of the draw situation, I’m happy to revist who gets to pick the first map.

(EL-CO) #331

To be honest, it’s funny for me that you are now trying to change the rule, Ciakgb. It was you who told Mitsid to follow the rule even though it sounds strange. It seems that you are always trying to run the tournament in favor to you. You said that we should follow the rule when you could get some advantages from it (first player advantage in Favela), and you tried to change the rule when it doesn’t favor to you (unfair quad match, and the final). Very inconsistent.
Again, let’s wait for Paul to give us the answer as this is his tournament. If he doesn’t appear soon, just finish the tournament. Oh, and just to be EXTRA FAIR, I’m ready to share the honor with you if you want. I’m just tired with such a fruitless discussion. You can run your own tournament afterwards, in any way you want.

Last but not least, I don’t think one match advantage for upper bracket winner is strange or unfair. There are lots of tournament even without any lower bracket. Indeed, this is fairly common way to run a tournament. You can learn the basic idea of it from wikipedia.

Google it before you say something preposterous. It might be not preposterous at all.

(Ciakgb) #332

I don’t think Mitsid and I’s discussion was related to this issue at all. That being said, I did read the wiki artlice and you do appear to be right. I apologize, seemed strange but what do I know.

Lets stop talk of ending tourney and have it out whenever you are ready.

(Paul) #333

Sorry guys, uni eating time, next tourney will be organized by someone who’s active ^^

If EL-CO is coming from the upper bracket he has a 1 point advantage (this is a general rule in double elimination brackets). So another 4 matches will be played in the best-scenario. If you win 3 (Ciakgb) you will win, if EL-CO wins 2 he will win. It’s basically as simple as that

(Ciakgb) #334

Cool, thanks Paul. Just waiting for you to give the OK ELCO…

(EL-CO) #335

I’m OK, but please be patient if I play slow. I hope I can make at least once a day, but I can’t promise. Sorry.

And just two things.
First, it is quite possible to have a match in a deadlock. Before starting the final, I would suggest to leave such game as a draw as we don’t need to determine only one winner in the final.
Second, I will not argue anything now, but for the future tournament, please consider the first player advantage.I think most of us will agree with that there is significant advantage for the first player in some maps, at least in Favela (and Train station IMO). I think Favela is an interesting map and good to have such map in the game. Hoerver, at the same time, Favela is not a map for this kind of tournament. Again, I don’t want to argue anything right now, but I just want to remind Paul and any other future organizer about this issue.

(Ciakgb) #336

Ok, el co, I don’t mind if you go slow, just do me one favor and don’t open my moves, see them, then quit to come back later. I don’t do this at all.

Draws are on the agreement of both players, so your note on that is fine as long as that’s understood. There is no claiming a draw at this time, so as long as you aren’t just going to declare draws whenever you want, shouldn’t be an issue.

Making me a little nervous will all this draw talk! Are you just going to cower in cover and never do anything remotely interesting? That would explain why you don’t want anyone to see it;)

Anyway, challenge on the way. Best of luck.

(Ciakgb) #337

Ironically, El-Co and I are not “friends.” Please accept the friend invite I sent you.

Pretty sure we did only play once, ElCo:)

(Ciakgb) #338

Well, elco and I are “pals” and I have sent the challenge! I will fill you in on the details as we go:)

(Jerry-Rigs) #339

Ciakgb, I enjoy your play by play and hope that you will be able to provide it for this august encounter. I understand EL-CO’s reluctance to televise the match but I hope he would not be offended by an event narrative.

(Ciakgb) #340

Well let me tell you folks its a tense atmosphere here at the Rad Soldiers World Cup Finals. The terse back and forth over rules are behind us and the combatants are ready to square off on what promises to be an epic display of e gamesmanship.

In the Blue Corner we have CiaKgb, benefiting from what would some would call a cushy route to this World Cup Final.

In the Red, ElCo, leader of the old school.

Wait Brett, I hear now in my headpiece, Ciakgb has sent his first move. Yes, I can confirm the match is underway!

What will be the first map? What squads will be employed? We can only wait here and hold along with the rest of the world as the answers reveal themselves…
