Racial Comments. . should they be reported?

(Ghosthree3) #21

I can only hope that such review manages to recognise context though. Many a time people including myself use words that would appear on that blacklist in a completely malice free way.

The process requires discretion, and if you ask me human judgment. I joke with my friends all kinds of ways that might seem offensive, but if you see that they have me added and I play with them regularly, that kind of thing, then it’s a simple case. Anyway, I’m no programmer, but I’m gonna go ahead and figure that any team which implements penalty is gonna be full aware of how frequent incorrect reports could be and not want to shut customers out of the game because of false positives. You gotta be able to tell the difference between the “boys will be boys” thing and legitimate toxicity, like I said in my first post thingy it’s definitely a complicated issue which will need complicated answers. Like studies on justice taught me, you gotta look at it through the due process model, that is, like an obstacle course, and not through the crime control model, which is an assembly line. There’s a sign in Scotland Yard I think, and it says “It’s better to let ten guilty men go free than convict one innocent man” or something like that, and I was taught to believe in that, and I do.

And before I forget, thank you folks for discussing this topic no matter what your opinion on it is, because critical thinking like this is how making something happen… well, happens. Not because we figure out the logistics, but because we figure out what we want, and then the people who make the games more or less figure out the logistics, bumps and all.

In game reporting for various issues (drop down menu over name) is a great idea.

It makes those who get huffy about irrelevant things feel like they have been pandered to and been allowed to have their say. Which is great as the actual report filed in game goes into a chute that terminates in an empty vacant office directly into a recycle bin that has a cat sleeping on it - it also has the benefit of not causing trouble if there are silly reports filed.

Issue solved

Nice posts, @PlayingUndead
I agree, you need to have somewhat of a thick skin, but abusive and hateful statements should not be tolerated. Report them with proof (screenshots/video) and Nexon will take your reports seriously. That’s not the kind of thing they want happening in their games.

we just need an option to mute player chat

(PlayingUndead) #26

Just a heads up for you, I believe this exists already, for voice chat at least. Hold TAB or whichever key you bound to pull up the scoreboard, then click MOUSE2 I believe, maybe MOUSE1, and that’ll bring up your cursor. Then by clicking on players (can’t remember which mouse button you have to click on them with), an option to toggle mute appears in a little dropdown menu, as well as vote to kick.

If you mean completely disable ALL voice chat (some people have no interest in it and I can respect that, at least outside of competitive), you can go to audio in the game options, there will be a tab or something like that for voice chat, and you can slide receive volume all the way down to zero, meaning you won’t hear anyone at all.

Now, as for muting text chat, or if muting their voice chat ALSO mutes their text chat, I’ll admit I have no idea, but I could definitely agree with muting someone’s text chat being a an important feature for folks.

(Ghosthree3) #27

Yeah he knows, he’s asking for one for text chat. Preferably separate from VOIP chat mind you.

(watsyurdeal) #28

Yea, the thick skin argument is good and all, but still, if it becomes rampant we might need to consider consequences.

I’m sorry but I really don’t have any tolerance for blatant racism, towards white people I don’t care, because well, we kind deserved that…

For others though, yea, no, I do not approve at all of any racism towards others.

Stopped reading. No. Don’t be one of those people. Get the fuck out.

muting VOIP DOESN’T mute chat

(PlayingUndead) #31

Rats. Well, if that’s the case then I figure muting text would be a great in-game option. Just curious, does anybody know if blocking communication with a player on Steam has any impact on in-game? Not saying that you should have to go that far to mute someone’s text chat in the game, but if it worked it’d be a nice little workaround.

This is an in-game qoute ‘’‘GET REKT U FKING ASIAN EGG FRIED RICE SANDNIGGER’’

Why? because i killed him over and over again because he was acting all cool…

‘‘GL enemies… you’ll need it. I’m an absolute beast gonna rek you a new asshole’’

I’m hoping for a chat mute in the future. thanks

(Mr-Penguin) #33

Like I said before, you can mute both chat and VOIP by going to the scoreboard, hold down RMB to activate the cursor, then click on the name of the person you want to mute and press mute. You can also call kicks this way.

(einstyle) #34

yeah, but from my experience, that only seems to work for voip not the actual text chat
would definitely appreciate a mute for chat, as it serves as a solution to various kinds of problems
