Iā€™ll try to summarize the current state of the game with the authentication server down.

The game is the same, the maps are the same and the only difference is that you donā€™t get a new shiny medal every now and then. What a bummer.

But there are upsides to the current state of affairs as well though!

You donā€™t have to play the same old maps in the same old way. You can play it in campaign mode if you want to, but you can switch to objective mode when the North Europe campaign comes up in the rotation, avoid Quarry and Ark that way and simply play Salvage and start a new campaign after that. You can switch to stopwatch mode, you can even play custom maps if you feel like it and are the adventurous type.

Whatā€™s so bad about all this? Is it really the medals and the XP?

I just wish that the source code of this game would be released so we could get a new master server and fix bugs and try to make the game harder to hack/cheat. add new maps (custom maps are nice seen some videos and played some others as well). Still have hope to see that happening once and for all.

You are absolutely correct. The beauty of this is that people have no choice, unranked servers is all there is :wink:

Attempts to run a ā€œpub friendlyā€ unranked server never were a great success. Bullet Hell had an unranked server for a while, you could get a game going with the help of your friends list but I donā€™t think we ever managed to keep the server going for more then a couple of hours in a row. There was always an active ranked server somewhere where everyone could get their shiny medals and for some strange reason people tend to flock to those.

This eliminates the competition :slight_smile: .

Donā€™t know how this will turn out eventually, but so far I havenā€™t heard many complaints about the lack of ranked servers from the newer players.

It is definitely possible to create custom map cycles, thereā€™s even a guide for that somewhere on these forums although I have to say that attempts at doing that myself failed miserably. No doubt due to my lack of understanding.

Personally speaking, Iā€™d love to drop the North Europe campaign all together, remove Outskirts from the North America campaign and tag Salvage onto it as the last map. That would be a nice way to get rid of the 3 ā€œheadacheā€ maps (Quarry, Ark and Outskirts) and a simple way to rearrange the decent stock maps into the campaign format.
