Quotidian - a map in development [Now with water/caustics]

(Avoc) #1

A map I’ve been working on the last few weeks on a pretty casual basis. Well, I’ve made a large enough chunk of it to feel safe that I wont just get tired of making it and stop the progress all together.

The story of the map is as follows:
The axis are trying to take all the fuelstock in the city and drive it to a more secure place where they can defend it from the allied forces. **The allies will have to fight their way through the city, capturing keypoints as they progress, and attempt to destroy the two fueltrucks that are about to leave the city.

This map acts as a prequel to fueldump.

Beware, old images ahead:

The map starts with the allies having to capture a trainstation rather close to where they spawn. They can secure the railstation by destroying the road barricades right next to the trainstation.
Or they can choose to try and sneak around trainstation, and avoid axis detection, and try to destroy the objectives in that way.

The objectives themself are two fueltrucks which are getting ready to leave the city and reach the fueldump where the axis will be able to protect it better. The allies have 30 minutes to fight their way through the city and dynamite these two fueltrucks.
The allies should beware that if they sneak around the main objectives, they might be spotted by enemy spies in the buildings, revealing where they are.

(that giant window has been removed)

I’m quite happy to announce that with the fog around, the max tri-count is around the 10.000, whilst without the fog its around the 25-30k.

And as the title says, I’m searching for any scripters who would like to spend some time with the map and do the scripting for it.
I am passionate about designing, but not-so-much for scripting, and knowing me, it would probably take a month extra just to get the scripting right, even though it is quite simple. >.>

You can try out an older version of the map here:

Enjoy

Woah, nice layout how long have you been into mapping?

Sorry that i cant help you with the scripts i am pretty noobish at scritpts too

(Avoc) #3

Thanks ^^

I’m actually quite new in mapping, I’ve released one map on my own, called Nemo (which was quite nice visually, but gameplay-wise, not-so-much, but it was my first map afterall :P)

Then I worked with 2bit on his Operation Chariot, which, in my opinion, is one of the technically best maps out there that demands that you work as a team, and do not solo everything. 2bit stood for the layout, scripting and most of the smaller buildings along with the garage, while I made some of the bigger ones like the axis spawns, pumphouse, fuelstorage.
The beauty of that map really shines when you look at the almost minimal tri-count and amazing detail. It featured ridable planes, operational cranes, and some very nice shader effects

There is a gallary for the map here:

Anyways, enough blatant advertising, In all I had begun mapping for ET about 7 months ago. I just wish I was as good at scripting as I was at designing.

New version of the map can be tested here:
78.47.129.218:27980

(again, this is not a playable map (yet) but you can walk around for now)

(stealth6) #7

cant join server :frowning:
snowalpha (or something like that) not avalible for autodownloading

(Avoc) #8

Ah sorry, I forgot to restart the server after uploading the new files. It should work just fine now.

(stealth6) #9

looks pretty good!
I like it, but pretty big :stuck_out_tongue:

2 things I noticed, the red light texture (I think it was that), wasn’t in the pk3, or something is missing, cause I saw the noshader texture…
and that was on an anything but fresh install, so maybe you forgot another 1?

and on one of the trucks is one of the illegal signs in germany, dunno if that is a major problem, but just to let you know

(Avoc) #10

Yes I have noticed the missing textures (there are a few) but I’ve located them.

As for the truck, good eyes, didn’t even notice it. Might have to deal with it.

(S14Y3R) #11

Yea its looking good  too bad about the truck, you could reskin it :stuck_out_tongue: Found this, there’s a few threads around here on reskinning too. http://www.map-craft.com/modules.php?name=Tutoriaux&rop=tutoriaux&did=19

(Avoc) #12

Yes, I have already reskinned it :stuck_out_tongue:

I was wondering whether or not it is possible to have the end-game cameras move along a path or something?

I read something about .camera files, but I am not quite sure I’ve understood everything.

What I am interrested in is having a camera that pans or shows the entire map after either axis or allies have won, instead of just a static view.

(stealth6) #13

well few more points if you were looking for details:

big open spaces (the roads), maybe a few more damaged vehicles or broken road or so?

in some winodws you have white curtains (I don’t know alot of histoy, btu I thought they are supoosed to be black) for during bomimg runs?

maybe you could add sirens? were used when bombers approached?

an in the map there was a giant snowball in the street, I’ve never seen that before in reallife

(Diego) #14

Not sure about moving the camera, but you can can use a stationary camera that targets a moving object. Put the target on a path that circles your map and the camera will track it.

That’s how the limbo camera that follows the tank in Fueldump is done.

(Avoc) #15

ROFL! Giant snowball??

where? Maybe you mean there is a giant snowhill in the map, if thats the case then yes, I need to fix that. And yes, I will be filling the streets up with junk and stuff. I just need to finish the basic outline of the map, which reminds me, I really need to get in contact with sage.

Get on msn!!

(Avoc) #19
