Quickchat System Revamp

So… the quickchat system…

As it is, I think it’s due for a revamp.

Firstly, the menu;

The menu is quick and efficient, but its really small. Unless you know already what taunts you need such as V-2-2 or V-2-1, finding something on the taunt system is surprisingly tough. I frequently have to squint to find quickchats that I don’t normally use.

And its weird to navigate. Some of the subsections are fine, like ‘taunts’ or ‘requests’, but others like ‘Team’ or ‘Global’ and ‘Commands’ are all really weird and obscure, not because of the name, but because of what each sub-menu is made up of. On top of that, there are several sub-sub-menus such as ‘More taunts’ or ‘More Global’ which are weird. The ‘More Taunts’ menu triggers me quite a bit because you don’t know what you’re going to say, with obscure names such as ‘Special Taunt 1’ and ‘Special Taunt 2’. Sure, this adds a bit of mystery and fun, but it would be nice to have at least a small idea of what you’re going to say before you say it.

So some ideas. Mainly, a menu UI revamp, with the goal of making it bigger and clearer. Preferably, I’d like there to be a ‘surface menu’, or basically, a menu with 10 spaces for quickchats that you can bind to the menu. By default, it would have the essential quickchats, such as ‘Medic’ and ‘Ammo’, then things like a team ‘sorry’, team ‘thanks’ and global ‘Good Game’ etc… There would also be a generic ‘taunt’ button, that would randomly choose a taunt from the default taunt menu. Obviously, there would be the option to go into the full taunt menu so that people can choose a specific taunt if they want.

But now for the taunts.

Simply put, there are too many. In addition to the extensive taunt menu, there are all those special taunts, and yet no-one really uses them. There’s also that weird unlock system that nobody really acknowledges or understands. Here’s an idea (or two) to fix both.

Idea number #1: Make the special taunts unlockable with $$$. Say 1000 credits per taunt.

Idea number #2: Link them to the loadout cards. Bronze = 1 special taunt, silver = 2, Gold = 3 and Cobalt = all. This ties into the taunt button above.

Thoughts?

Personally, for me, I think that the current quick chat system works just fine, since once you have learnt all the key commands (if that’s what you call them) it is just memory and i don’t even look at the quick chat menu anymore, and making it any bigger in its current layout would obscure parts of the screen. As for the special taunts, I think they should be given out every couple of levels or so (just to add something to reward players for level progression, since there currently is nothing), an F2P game doesn’t need to monetize anything else, but I completely agree that the “Special Taunt 1” thing does need to go, it is very unnecessary and if it was gone and replaced with a keyword or something like that from the taunt that it triggers.

These are just my thoughts.
