Quick question regarding Brink and steam

(Aristotle) #1

So, my desktop has been acting weird for a while and in the middle of playing a game the other day everything on my PC closed and wouldn’t open again. Every time I would try there was some program (by that I mean virus) that would pop up called MS Tool something and would tell me that whatever I tried opening it wouldn’t let open because it was “infected”. I couldn’t even open the task manager.

So I put in a boot disc and let it boot from there and ran 2 different anti-virus programs that I use (I will admit I hadn’t been using any on my desktop for some time, I know I’m retarded for doing that) and they both only found one virus, and they said they took care of it, so I took the disc out and reboot, everything is fine for about a minute then the MS Toll bs thing opens up again.

So, my question is, seeing as I’ve never used steam to play a game before Brink, if I were to replace my current hard drive with either the 2 tb or the 1.5tb drives I have how would I go about getting steam to let me play Brink again? I’m assuming I just do the same thing I did when I bought it, put the disc in and install it + steam, but wasn’t sure if I had to do anything special with the whole account lock thing. I know this may seem like a retarded question, but I am a complete noob when it comes to steam.

You can install Steam first, then sign in with your info. A special verification code will be sent to your email address that lets Steam know that it’s ok for you to log into steam from the new location, which will then allow you to download and install any games you already own directly from Steam.

Before you scrap your current Hard Drive and give up hope, try out the ‘White Hat’ section over at hackforums.net.

They will probably be able to help you clear the virus out of your Registries and so on to re-claim the utility of your hard drive. Their service is free. Basically, they use programs like OTL, MBAM, GMER and Combofix to diagnose your system and identify malicious or simply suspicious programs, processes, and registry entries for either removal or amendment. Also, they stick with the job until it’s done or you stop posting - good service.

The section for help is listed under ‘Hack Forums / Computing / White Hat Help / HijackThis Log Analyzer and Tutorials’

Run antivirus checks in safe mode else the virus will be back after the next reboot.
