Quick Q about radiant in linux

(Boosted) #1

heya…ive been using radiant in win for quite some time now, but i finally cleaned up my linux installation so i have space here and can finally map in linux
the question is tho, should i install ET a second time like in win?
i mean, pak0 and the “normal” map pk3`s have completely different paths in linux, thats why i would think i dont need to.
but as im unsure i thought id ask here,
id love not have install ET again as im still lacking HD space (2 GB free only!).

hopefully some1 can clear that up

in the countless years i’ve been mapping for ET in linux, i’ve only ever had a single ET installation and never a problem. i also always install ET locally(ie, in /home/sodsm/enemy-territory not in /usr). all my production stuff goes in /home/sodsm/enemy-territory whereas downloaded mods and pk3s go in .etwolf. In .etwolf/etmain I create links to the maps, models, textures, etc directories under the main enemy-territory install. like i said, never been a problem.

to create a link, in a console, go in to the directory you need the link and type:
$ ln -s /full/path/to/place/you/want/to/link/to

thats what i wanted to hear

ive installed it in the default path, but doesnt really matter as ive given me full rights for the games folder.

do i really need to link it up?
cant i just set it that it reads directly from my games folder?

edit—

ive just installed it and theres 1 little problem…the radiant window is bigger than my actual screen
so it overlaps on one side…
already tried to maximize ect…cant make it smaller, i can only change the height :?

i noticed that all you said was ‘radiant’ is this GtkRadiant or SDRadiant?

i’ve only ever worked with GtkRadiant and never on a screen less than 1024 pixels wide. it sounds like you’re at 640x480 resolution, which means you would need to change your desktop resolution to something larger. If you can’t get larger than that you may be only using the defalt video driver in which case you would have to install the proper one.

a little more info might help:

linux distro
desktop resolution
resolution your monitor is capable of
radiant version

about linking, i started doing that with GtkRadiant 1.4 because when you would try to open something(be it a map, place a model, whatever) it would always start out in the hidden .etwolf directory. also, q3map2 was only looking in .etwolf for shaders when converting a bsp to an ase file. just been doing it that way ever since.

not a driver problem.
got everthing installed.
using ubuntu, radiant 1.4 (cuz i use it in win too, and im happy with it :P) and screen res is 1024x768.
my old monitor goes only up to 1280x1024, but as its just a 17` i dont use that anyway
ill have to check if i need to link…maybe it works the normal way too.
