id like to do a fast compile to test lighting, so not fullbright, but i dont want to spend tons of time on the compile, doesnt need to be perfect-looking. what commands would you use on the light stage?
quick compile with light
no matter what i do, my compile keeps stopping at the PassagePortalFlow, after 0…1… then nothing. no movement for hours. any ideas?
what version of gtk radiant are you using?
how many lights in your map?
it looks to me like its freezing up if it stops at 0…1…
are you sure your PC is not crashing
except for light options with bounce 8, most lighting compile times are reasonably quick. its the vis bit that can take a long time. have you tried any of the other light options
yeah, its not freezing, its just slowing up and i get a low virtual memory message (i have 512 mb pc3200 btw). when i try some other light options, things do not get lit correctly. i have one light right now: the sky.
512mb should be enough even for a huge map. ive made 4 maps in radiant in my life and ive never known the length of the lighting compile to be a problem for anyone. the only time when light compiles have been difficult is when people use gtk radiant 1.3.8. if you’re using 1.3.8 i suggest you change to 1.4.0. if your already using 1.4.0 then i have no idea what the problem could be. if you need a more techy person to help you try the q3map support forum.
edit: have you tried making small test maps. if small maps cause the same problem then i might mean the problem is with your pc. if a small test map compiles fine then it could mean the problem is with your map.
as blushing_bride suggest but use your map with a region. Try compiling that, it should be under a min. Unless you have a ton of light.
what about testing portions of the map? or making small test boxes?
Isn’t ‘PassagePortalFlow’ part of the ‘vis’ compile, not the light stages?
