Queueing for Ranked While Playing Casual?

(jjpdn) #1

What do you guys think?

Would more people queue for ranked if you could play a casual game while waiting?

Or do you think it would be a bad idea?

it would be a bad idea, people leaving in pubs is enough of an issue as is.

id rather just have a counter showing how many other people are queueing for ranked that fit the specifications to match you.

Your post definitely highlights why people do not queue as much, and that is of course due to the wait time (I tend to alt-tab and watch youtube videos when that occurs and wait to hear the accept sound).

However, that would definitely cause more balancing issues than it is worth.
How about a simple minigame like pong or shuffleboard with proxy’s mines, bocce with fragger and or fletcher bombs, and chibi heads representing your character or even a themed tetris style game in between sessions that you can play against your other teammate or even a computer until the match starts. I do recall that being a feature in some other games while you wait, you play something, usually related to the game until the main event loads.

I just randomly thought of a mini-game where you see dead mercs like vasilli falling down in rows of what looks like a carnival shooting gallery. You get Sparx reviver gun, different mercs give different points and the speed gradually increases in some rows and slows down in others. If you revive an enemy merc you lose points and your teammate or the computer gains.

Google has a wait game like that when you use chrome. If your internet cuts off you see an error with a dinosaur, you press space and suddenly you are that 2d side scrolling dinosaur and you have to jump over holes and avoid obstructions.

I can imagine a very simple game where you are a random merc running and you have to jump over proxy mines and other obstacles, basically the samething as the google dino but with DB style.

SD should hire you.
Though, the idea of a bunch of falling corpses gave me quite the image…

How about tutorials/mini games for mercs in your squad ( ala FIFA ) while you wait?

Lol sorry but horrible idea , I had so many ragequitters yesterday it wasnt funny anymore. It is already bad as it is , don’t make it worse

My queue times are generally 0-5 minutes being cobalt 2 atm (sometimes I get matched instantly). I pitched the same idea awhile ago. A lot more people are queuing now then ever before, it ain’t so bad, I’d rather them focus on other developments of the game. My friends do say that my account is blessed because I get matched quicker (everyone wants to queue with me for this reason). I also noticed the same thing preseason when I was elite, I got matches a lot quicker than my lower ranking friends. Maybe this is an unspoken quality. For example, I had two friends (gold recruit/gold agent) sit in a queue for over an hour last night while I was on my fourth MM match before they got a match. And then after they complained of getting matched slowly I queued with one of them and both times we were matched in under four minutes.

@KnightDemon omg what a workaround…I can imagine to have such indy game even during unbearably long loading screens xD Amazing idea !

Most fighting games with an online ranked mode have the option for the player to go to training mode and practice or you can turn on the CPU and fight them while waiting. Typically match-up times are pretty quick though so you’re rarely in their long. DB having bots to fight would be the best solution here but that isn’t going to happen. However, they could at least let you go run around maps by yourself locally while you were waiting.

As far as the OP’s suggestion goes it would never work without making pubs, and pub balancing, even worse. With people constantly dropping in and then out of pubs it would make an already crappy situation even worse. There would have to be specific auto-joined servers setup that only people waiting on a queue joined so that nobody would care. Which would be an OK compromise assuming regular Joe’s didn’t accidentally join.

It would be a nice feature with the long wait times, however people have been waiting for commonsense fixes and balance. Although its a small change that doesn’t effect there other changes so who knows.

Yes, please. Fast.

Waiting times are a bit… boring and 50% extracredits dont cut it when waiting 20mins even at prime time.

(Mrarauzz) #12

i just play hearthstone. play some mobile game and wait then wait again because someone forgot to accept -__- the things we do to play 5v5 DB.

(Sir_Slam) #13

You know what I play when im waiting? This. (Warning, this really, really bloody. Like enough to give Stephen King a chubby. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSzYliSASKc

DB gives incentives to play ranked; People still dont play because of the way the game is structured. Hoooray no commonsense!
