Questions

(Emilios1310) #1

Because I have too many questions about mapping, I will post them all here to avoid posting useless topics.

And please, I am a noob mapper, so don’t think I know all this stuff…

So, here are my questions:

  1. How do I make a tree? I can’t find the tree model in the pak0.pk3 nor I can use the Tree Planter plug-in in GtkRadiant.
  2. How do I make my skyboxes work? I can only see them in noclip, and because I can’t test the map without closing it, I put some stone textures around my map so I can test it.
  3. How do I make artillery/airstrikes work? Because my map is closed, I can’t use the Field Ops class at all.

If I have any more questions, I’ll be sure to post them in this topic.

Thanks!

Hi,

to help you mapping, the following tutorials are very handy:
http://www.pythononline.co.uk/et/tutorial.htm

Give it a try and you’ll notice most of your questions will get an answer when following the tutorials

As for artillery/airstrikes: you’ll need a working skybox to do that. As a test skybox, you can use the fueldump_sky skybox (which should be in /textures folder, if I’m right)
or try google’ing for awesome skyboxes

shagileo, I am following that tutorial ^^

as for the skybox, I downloaded a custom one, it’s working but only when I noclip outside of the map.

About the tutorial, there is a tree tutorial there but it’s talking about a model which I can’t find… (tree_a.md3)

If you wanna get high quality skyboxes, then check: http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18033
What Gtkradiant you are using?

I am using GtKRadiant 1.5.0.

Hello Emilios,

Skybox -> You’ve textured all faces with the same texture? I use personally Heat from Avoc, it has 6 files: front/back/left/right/top and another one which is the texture to put in Gtk.

Trees -> Copy/Paste from FuelDump? Radar? You can have 2 Gtk opened and copy/paste between both  But if I’m not wrong 1.5.0 does not include the missing files of ET such as few models… Package there:

Thanks Ailmanki for the packages

Thanks for posting! I’ll open a topic for my project as soon as I get a bit more into it… For now I’ll post questions here.

EDIT: I just downloaded that package. Thanks a lot! Now I can finally see “Caulk” “Trigger” and “Ladder” images instead of “Shader Image Missing” !

I got another question. How do I make something move itself? I want to make an airplane look like it is flying real fast.

Another set of great tutorials: Surface

Here’s a tutorial regarding your issue:

You should make 1 important thing - extract all from Pak0.pk3 to etmain folder, then you will see needed models in proper folders

Also, to avoid “Models appearing as square”, you should put your ET Mapping folder at the base of your hard drive, with a short name, like C:\ETMap. I have 3 different ETs, and I’ll maybe have 4 if I find much interest to install 2.55; One for playing, one for bot scripting, one for mapping so far, all 2.60b.
