Questions regarding adding new models into ET

Hi guys,

I’m no mapper but i’d like to know if this is possible to :

  • Replace an existing weapon model by another (ie higher poly, more accurate…) ?
  • Replace for example the Allies FG42 only by another weapon (it seems impossible without source code but maybe…). This means that we would keep the FG42 for Axis.

I searched for 3DS max plug-ins to export models to MDC or MD3 files but found none :frowning:
Can anyone point me to one, please ?

Can we make other models in maps such has, say, a boat and use them as the panzer is used in Fueldump ? Or are we limited to ET’s models ?

I’m sorry if you feel these are “noobs” questions but again i’m no mapper…

I would guess that you could replace existing models. I doubt you could change the allies fg42 only, unless you got access to the code.

If you did replace the models, it would act like a mod or skinpack, replacing them for ALL the played on that server.

Yes you can, so long as you set them up with a new movement script.

So could you build an airplane and have it fly overhead via a spline mover, dropping an airstrike via a script? Is the movement flexible this way? Thanks.

Yep, funnily enough we did a similar thing with one of our early test maps, so it is definitely possible. If you need help on the specifics, sock or djbob would be the ones to prod.

Yes you can attach a plane model to a splinepath and make it bank and roll as it travel over head dropping bombs. djbob added alot of nice features to the “followspline” command and some of them were used in goldrush and fueldump maps for the tank.

Unfortunately they where not documented and this is something I need to sort out when I get a moment because they really need some diagrams to explain how they work. (Well for me they do)

But in the mean time check out the above scripts for examples of what you can do with the movement of splinepath objects.

Thx for your replies sock abnd Flufffy.
In fact I’d like to make a campaign of 3 maps about Operation Chariot, the raid on Saint Nazaire, the most impressive commando operation of all times.
I need to have 2 boats that move accross a part of the map and have Allies respawn on it.
In fact I would need 2 boat reinforcements each respawn. Is it possible to have ‘programmed’ boats following the splinepath ?
