Questions before Revolution Release!

Hi all,

I’ve got some questions, please try to answer them, I need answers!

  1. If you have your .pk3 file ready, how do you get it online?

  2. When playing my map (alone) it works very slow when I’m near the tank…
    I didn’t use hint or skip in my map, could this be the reason? I’ll try to add hint and skip but it’s very difficult for me.

  3. Can someone make me a picture with the word ‘Revolution’. This is the picture that you see while the map is loading, I would appriciate if someone could me a black/white picture with the word ‘Revolution’. The maker of this picture will be add in the co-workers of Revolution.

  4. I’ve got a problem with the second tankbarrier, I copied it from goldrush and I the script is fine, but normally the tank has to stop before the barrier, but the tank doesn’t stop riding and the tankbarrier (already built) disappears…?

  5. If the tank reaches the factory, it doesn’t shoot the gate… Very strange

What are your FPS like? Do you testplay your map with cg_drawfps 1? If your map doesn’t feature good FPS its very likely it will not be very popular.

  1. You can register to a web hosting service like http://www.vibrahost.com and upload your pk3 there and then give the link to people and try to add it in ET sites.
    I remember someone here just gave a link to a site you can upload your pk3s for 3 (free…)

  2. Did you use autoclip or q3map_clipModel? They can really slow your fps.
    When I used them on my tunnel model it didn’t affect the fps so much but when I used it on my crashed plane I could barely move.

  3. I can, just tell me what size exactly it should be and anything I need to know (alpha channel, format, etc…)
    Just to make sure I know what you’re talking about, you talk about the one like the picture of the fort in Oasis and the bank in Goldrush, right?
    If that’s the case, I need a picture of your map to use…

FWIW, if these are the problems you are having, you shouldn’t even be thinking of a release right now, unless it’s specifically for people to check out gameflow, in which case I would only release it to a very small private group

Well, the picture I need is a picture that you see while the map is loading, ex. goldrush=> while loading you see a picture with the bank

I just need a picture with the word ‘Revolution’, the picture must be black/white and the size must be the size of a normal ‘loading map’ picture…

I’m gonna release my map for ‘deathmatch and last man standing’. The map with objectives will be released later :smiley:

I know, but I’m trying to add hint and skip…
Oh dear oh dear oh dear.
You know, I almost wish hint brushes were a secret that n00b mappers couldn’t find out about until they’d proven they can make maps run fine without them.

Most maps won’t benefit from hint brushes unless designed from the start with them in mind.
Trying to retrofit hint brushes in a map when you don’t know what you are doing will:
A) increase compile times
B) not increase FPS

My advice is, go back, remodel, get FPS good without them, because they aren’t going to benefit you at all.
