Questions about the card scrapping system

(frostyvampire) #1

I know it’s still only in development but I have a few questions about it still

  1. Will this new system replace tradeins and tradeups?

  2. Will it be RNG? I know that everyone here wants to get the best card for each merc in cobalt, but if you don’t make it RNG it will completely destroy the point of trading between players when (and if) it’s released because some cards won’t be rare so I wonder what you will do

  3. Will we be able to scrap special edition cards (like Suspect cards) and promotional items (like Humble Bundle cards)? I know you won’t be able to scrap obsidians but still

  4. Will specific cards grant you different point values (outside of the rarity)? Like will 1st gen cards give you more points than 2nd gen? And shard skins will give more points than fragment skins?

  5. Will you be able to scrap the cards without dragging them (like using right click and click “scrap for x points”)? Some people (like me) don’t seem to be able to drag items for some reason and it would help

  6. Will you need to spend credits along with the points for crafting? Or instead will we be able to turn credits into points to create loadout cards? Or maybe none of those? :3

If a dev could answer it would help, thanks

  1. Probably
  2. If SD is going with the Hearthstone route then there would be no reason to have trading with the new system, unless they’re special cards due to them not being scrappable.
  3. It probably won’t let you.
  4. Haven’t heard anything about that.
  5. Probably not to avoid accidental scrap but who knows it could be a good qol feature.
  6. Haven’t heard anything about that.

@MadMorpho
Ok thanks, but I still would like to hear answers from a developer for 100% (or at least 90% because it’s still WIP and not everything is firm) accurate answers

About trading: I guess it makes sense but then it would completely screw up people who bought cases and stuff with cash because they won’t be able to sell it later when they quit the game. But I won’t be too disappointed if trading is not introduced because I already have some of the cards I want. I can’t believe I’m saying (or writing) it but I hope this system will still be a 1/9 chance RNG. Or have some RNG for high rarities (so like bronzes will have no RNG, for silvers you will be able to choose 3 cards for a merc and get 1 of them, golds choose 6 cards and cobalt will have a 1/9 chance) in it so good cards don’t lose their value and people who have done a bunch of tradeins trying to get good cards don’t get screwed.

For 5: They MUST make an option to scrap items without dragging cards unless they fix the inability to drag items bug (which they probably won’t until the full release or close to there). Obviously they will have to make a popup that will ask you something like “Are you sure you want to scrap your for points? This cannot be undone”

Also I have another question (I will also edit the original post with it)
Will we be able to turn credits into points to create loadout cards? This would help people who have a bunch of credits and don’t wanna buy cases

Just be aware that all of this information is speculation. There has been no official word on the system besides that it is being worked on.

@Ardez
Yeah I know it, but I still would like to know some stuff because the more you know

@FrostyVampire And knowing is half the battle!

You will (likely) not get a direct developer response on the publisher forum. (Raz is not a dev, but the local community manager of the publisher, sitting thousand of miles away from the place of game development and production.) The developers can be reached directly on the developer forum and discord. (And occasionally reddit.)

1, 3, 4, 5, 6: unknown.

2: Not according to the WIP screenshot. It looks like it is a way to eliminate rng on higher rarity cards.
That being said, buying stuff in the game with the expectation, it will be a future investment in p2p loot is ludicrous, and emphasizes the reason, p2p trading should be all together avoided: “economic” speculation. For that, you can go bet on the stock market or play one of the countless stock market simulators around the web. It is not what the Dirty Bomb experience is about.
Giving players a better crafting system, does not qualify as screwing them over, unless said players have engaged in speculation, by anticipating, besides no changes to the current crafting system, a free market to tag along with it, in which case, it is a case of screwing yourself, with wrong expectations and a rampant imagination.

To be honest, we have no other information to share about dusting aside from what was posted on the developer blog.

It is still very much so a work in progress, so we have no definite things on what is happening with it aside from yes, you can dust. :smile:

Sorry for the lack of information, but at the moment it’s getting looked out and almost changed daily as we tweak this, tweak that, should we allow this, allow that… etc.

We’ll have more info as we get closer to releasing it!

I’m just thinking about all of the cobalts I’ve traded in, just hoping for that one fletcher (6 trade ins, no avail). And when this finally comes, I’m just going to cry.

Hopefully they’re tears of happiness…
