Questions about grenade abilities.

(Jimmy James) #1

I’m not a big fan of grenades in general but I want to build a grenade-based soldier to try it out and I have a few questions:

I’ve been using a Gerund AR with an Underslung Grenade Launcher with good effect but I can’t launch a grenade while sprinting. Will the Sprinting Grenade ability allow me to use the Underslung Grenade Launcher while sprinting?

Similarly, do the Grenade Damage, Grenade Mastery, and Frag Blast abilities affect the grenades launched from the Underslung Grenade Launcher?

Finally, is there any way to use Grenade Shooting in conjunction with the Underslung Grenade Launcher? I’d like to try this ability out (a lot of people say its really useful) but does it make the Underslung Grenade Launcher superfluous?

Thanks for any insight,
JJ

Idon’t know if the underslung grenade launcher cancels out sprinting grenade it may not though.
The damage boosters and grenade mastery will effect the underslung launchers yes. And finally it is possible to shoot your grenades out of the air and others thrown at you as well.

The sprint perk doesn’t work with underslung, which really sucks. It does something weird if I recall, like lock up your movement or cost you the cooldown but not fire. Either way it feels like a bug and hopefully they can fix it. Underslung is super ****ing good with soldier perks, you can use molotv + instant nade to wipe out groups of people.

i think all your points have been covered, but as someone who rocks the gerund with the USGL (rokstedi too), i’ll chime in…

sprinting grenade does not allow you to launch on a sprint. i thought it would. it does not. sometimes (most/all?) it seems to cancel out the grenade launch (and reminds me to let up on the L2 trigger (console) to launch the grenade. but, i find i rarely want to launch my USGL on a dead sprint…more of a support tactic, so timing is more important than speed, especially in FF-on matches.

all the grenade upgrades benefit USGL, but sometimes the animations do not reflect this (i.e. they look like normal grenades - but the bug appears to be graphical and not stats/dmg based (i.e. they seem to have normal (incr.) damage)

on PC, my understanding is you cannot shoot enemy grenades w/ grenade shooting. (on ps3, this is either a bug or a designed feature - i.e. i can shoot enemy grenades). while it is possible that you might be able to shoot your USGL grenade after launching it, since it explodes on impact, it’s not really that necessary, and i’ve gotten pretty good at USGL “headshots” - which are, shall we say, impactful on the receiving player(s). grenade shooting seems to be an exploitable skill for closer range (i have not used it for such), but the USGL works better as a support tool (e.g. the engineer is removing the charge OR controlling a chokepoint) since it has even better control re: the point of impact/explosion.

i really like the upgraded grenades with soldier and the USGL, in particular on support role objectives… my .03

So yesterday I was playing Brink (PC) and I launched a grenade from my USGL and it exploded in mid-air before reaching its target. I believe that someone with the Grenade Shooting ability detonated my grenade early. I have never taken the Grenade Shooting ability myself so I assume either a teammate or an enemy with Grenade Shooting set it off (intentionally or accidentally).

I still have no idea what actually happened and any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,
JJ

Supposedly, you’re only supposed to be able to shoot your own grenades. However, someone (I don’t remember who) confirmed shooting enemy grenades on the PS3, and it certainly seems like I occasionally shoot an enemy grenade on the xbox.

Also, when I got the grenade shooting achievement, I hadn’t thrown a grenade. So, it looks like you can shoot everyone’s grenades. I haven’t done the testing myself to be sure, though.

(thesuzukimethod) #7

that was me. you can definitely shoot all grenades (opponent, teammate) on ps3. and I’m 99.9% sure the shooting skill is extended to slung grenades (i’ve had them blow up on me much sooner than expected). I’ve also definitely shot opponents grenades just as they threw them for a knockdown (i think they had upgraded grenades, so the extended range probably helped).

this seems both glitchy and totally reasonable at the same time.

(BROTOX) #8

That’s cool, I thought those grenade upgrades only applied to hand thrown grenades… hmmmm.

(thesuzukimethod) #9

confirmed. you can shoot your own underslung grenades on ps3. the animations defaulted to the pre expanded dmg/range ones though (i.e. it just looks like a little splosion)

@BROTOX. yup. very useful. (it was a little confusing, b/c the documentation said something about grenade upgrades not applying to grenade launchers - which is true for the nade-launcher weapons, but they def apply to USGL). also, the animations are a little buggy and sometimes run as though you just have the little grenades, but the effects are not little.

(tangoliber) #10

When you shoot your own grenade as a soldier with the grenade buffs, you only get the little grenade explosion…not the big one. I wonder if its just a visual thing though? Is the larger grenade radius still applied?

(thesuzukimethod) #11

I think it’s just a visual glitch given the damage it still does (and that I sometimes get the big animation when i shoot them - I’d say at least 1/3 - 1/2 the time)

edited to add - i ran a quick set of tests on the “be more objective” challenge (ahh the benefits of working from home)
–when grenades come to a complete stop and are shot = generally animation as normal (enhanced spread/dmg)
–when they are still rolling or are in the air and shot = frequently (but not always) animate as though they are not enhanced (e.g. smaller)
but
–despite “wrong” animation, they still have radius and damage of enhanced grenades.

(all on ps3, dunno about xbox or pc)

Caution to using 'nades from USGL whilst under overhanging terrain, they can ‘clip’ and leave you w/ a face full.

Cool, thanks for the info.

(BiigDaddyDellta) #14

On the xbox I am able to shoot my granades enemy granades as well as enemy molitovs, im not sure about caltrops and such but I have hit a lazerus granade before I believe.

(nephandys) #15

I’ve definitely blown up enemy sticky nades on console. I had one I blew up in my own face the other day.

(BiigDaddyDellta) #16

Haha yeah I could see that, that’s on thing I LOVED about halo. I used to stick guys then should the granade on them for an instant (before you can run into me) kill.

(thesuzukimethod) #17

np. i just loaded up the be more objective challenge and did some grenade shooting to confirm (it’s nice the bots stand relatively still
