Questions about binding meshes to bones

(twt_thunder) #1

took up my project about ghillie suit again,

I’ve created this:

And I wonder if I select mesh pieces and attach them to different parts of skeleton, delete the playermodel, and saving the ghillie-suit and fix so it is asigned as “backpack” or something ingame, will the parts move with legs and arms and body or do I need to make a new playermodel out of it?

you another tool to make playermodel for et - its not possible with milkshape
i use lightray3d
i heared that there are plugins for blender - but i dunno
about adding stuff with tags - like backpack and helmet - there are a lot of tags inside the playermodels but i think they are not called from the engine
means hardcoded
you can use backpack
helmet
belt left
belt right
belt

i think thats all you can use -
you can test it - but i think there is no way if you don t change some engine stuff

The ACC stuff doesn’t have any animations, they are attached to the body which has animations

So you mean I have to make a new playermodel?
Since Backpack and the other stuff just hangs on and doesnt move with body?
and do i need to bind the extra meshes to the rest of cov-ops body?

Thanx, but this I know

I think I went over your post a bit too fast, sorry :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not sure which tags are available apart from the known ones (tag_mouth, tag_weapon, tag_weapon2, tag_back, tag_ubelt, tag_bleft and tag_bright etc), so as far as I can tell the only way is to make a playermodel of your own.

yeah, only problem is… q3-tool wont… it says model can’t be converted…

I also found there is several tags inside the playermodel:

here’s the list:

tag_head

tag_mouth

tag_weapon2

tag_armleft

tag_weapon

tag_armright

tag_back

tag_chest

tag_bright (right belt)

tag_bleft (left belt

tag_footleft

tag_legleft

tag_footright

tag_footleft

tag_lbelt (this one I cant find in mesh

tag_ubelt(seems like in the bottom of spine)

tag_torso

so there should be something to pick from…

but isnt it possible to bind to say example: bip01 L Calf or any other joint… have anybody tried this?

You should be able to “attach” the pieces of foliage similar to the backpack and helmet items. AFAIK, it was just a matter of using the right tag to the right piece/area you wanted to “attach” the accessory to. You probably will have to mess around with the location of the item in the md3 to get it right but it should work.
