question

(Nikto) #1

i encountered a question on facebook and it made me wonder so i’ll ask it
“Can we see characters feet and shadows on the ground of BRINK?”

(Gogeku) #2

I assume you’re referring to your own character? It is rarely possible to see your own feet in an fps game except if it is a simulator game. You’ll probably be able to see your own shadow if you turn on some graphics options.

I think it was said a while back that this wasn’t easy to do and was taken off the table quite early. Looking at L4D vs L4D2 it seems that it would also eat up precious CPU cycles only to pay off if you was to look down.

In F.E.A.R. you could see your own legs and feet.

I got surprised when I noticed :stuck_out_tongue:

After playing games where you are self-aware of your body etc it is very bizarre going back to a game without it… But seeing my legs vs playing the game in high graphics with high fps, I’ll choose no legs.

must have missed that then, i offer you my apologies and my thanks for answering

I like games like crysis/l4d where the player isn’t some floating hands.
You’ll probably be able to see your own shadow if you turn on some graphics options.
Would look odd looking down if the player could see their own shadow w/o body.

What extra gameplay value/game addition do (visible) legs have? I admit it is weird looking down and seeing no legs, but in the heat of battle, who in earths name looks at their legs? :o

I actually found it pretty annoying while jumping in L4D(2), you always see some leg flying over you screen, wondering how he/she could walk after doing almost a split… But hey, I’m not going to complain if it there or not.

In FEAR they served a purpose, as the melee attack was a flying kick. The feet can also help judge how close to an edge you are for certain jumps etc. In the likes of ET, there were no legs you kinda guessed if you were right on the edge… would’ve helped for tricking.

In the freedom of movement vid, the players shadow is visible when he slides to break his fall at 1:03. Don’t know if that answers your question though.

I kinda hope they do have your legs visible, I mean after playing l4d1 where you could see your feet, playing l4d2 just seemed kinda off without seeing your legs.

I was just thinking, we get 16 character slots they said so do you think you don’t have to choose a faction before creating or do you think it will be every character is different (i would think so considering they keep saying they want to give us as much customization as possible) just want someone’s feedback or confirmation of feature

(Ramziez) #14

You don’t have to choose a faction for your characters anyway. Each character you make is both resistance and security. You have outfits and weapons for both. So essentially you have have 32 different outfits and 16 characters.

You never played W:ET or RtCW?
I am used to having no legs :stuck_out_tongue:

except few titles, like Mirror Edge or Arma2, there is no games with freelook support[ie, observation, independent from movement].
which quite usual on some other platforms.
