So i had a question about ranked, based on something i have observed. Why does the ranking system not seem to take ping into account? I get that a lot of people que outside their region due to either no one playing on their region or they want to play with a friend. What I do not understand is why matchmaking seems to put everyone with high ping (80 and above) on one team and every one with low ping (79 and below) on the other? Has anyone else been noticing this? or am i just extremely unlucky when i que.
question/observation about ranked
I’m pretty sure you’re just unlucky, I doubt ping is a factor.
DB doesn’t shuffle based on ping because there aren’t enough people playing, and the system can’t afford to base teams off of anything other than “skill”.
80 ping is high?
In an average fps game, anything under 100ms counts as a good ping (or at least good enough).
In Dirty Bomb, even 150 ping feels good enough and doesn’t ruin the game (to me at least). Sure you’re at a bit of a disadvantage but you don’t teleport all over the map.
I live in Israel so I can never get under 60 ping, in any game (not only Dirty Bomb), my average is about 72 or so.
You can select your region but that’s all. Some people just live far away and no matter how good their net is, they won’t be able to get under 100ms because there simply aren’t enough players near them and it’s not worth SD’s time and money to make some server next to them.
Also don’t forget that some people just have a potato internet or their internet is trolling them (problems with provider usually), I already experienced my 80 mb/s net speed dropping to 15 and even 10 mb/s, which led my ping to go up to 300+. Sometimes it happened midgame so I could do nothing about it other than enabling Wi-Fi from my phone and playing with my phone net with 120 ping (which is not an option for a lot of people) or just leave and hope it gets fixed ASAP.
Maybe if the game becomes more popular, we will see more servers in more cities in the future.
Honestly DB is one of the only games I find fine to play on high ping. While 150ms isn’t fantastic, it isn’t game changing in my opinion.
Some abilities struggle I guess, EG sawbonez on high ping trying to hit direct packs. But generally things like grenades and airstrike markers can still be easily used on high ping.
If you’re losing battles, you’re probably just being out aimed or out played.
I raised this earlier when SD decided that Oceana ranked match servers were moved to SG and it presented a technological bias against players. Then there was a thread in redit discussing the netcode of DB under UE3. Somewhere down the discussion, there was this video from Battle(non)sense last year stating how latency can affect your gameplay in CS:GO. While the two games are on different engines, there are some similarities in terms of replication in the video; namely
[]both engines employ latency compensation, on CS:GO to an extent[]hit registration and arbitration by the server
These have nothing to do with how high ping affects projectiles
doxjq had a hunch, for which I showed video evidence of how projectile delivery is changed, and has carried over time and is more evident on high latency.
