Question: How to deal with the useless

(Shadowcat) #21

What they left out was the ability for players to go AFK and tell the AI to play for them while they are still in the game. Unless settings are changed, AI will take over for any player that leaves the game.

You mean theres global text chat? cough
I guess its never been confirmed, but whats the last game that you played that did’nt have global text chat? So far as i have noticed, the devs are careful to say “normal games will have no VOIP” and “advanced games will have VOIP”

Besides, how are you supposed to build up a list of friends that you can talk to in game if they don’t even allow text chat? I could care less about how much skill people have, i add people based on personality.
Q) How do I deal with useless team-mates?

A) Have you played multiplayer games previously? If so, in the same way you always have before. By smashing your controller/keyboard and shouting.
This actually made me chuckle
awesome memories, horrible mental pictures

None. I find it absurd that a developer would take such a measure, and I would be pretty pissed if there wasn’t global chat. But thats why I mentioned it

I’m pretty sure FF is on to prevent “spy checking”.

(Herandar) #25

Nope. Default is off. Blame consolification, if you must.

(Shadowcat) #26

“Normal” games have FF and global VOIP off.

“Advanced” games have FF and global VOIP on.

(Linsolv) #27

Advanced games have the OPTION of FF on and global VOIP on. Option. You know.

(RAAAAAAAAAAGE) #28

‘Spy Checking’ as you put it can have a negative effect on the team. . Too many games on Killzone have i walked into a room where there is 4 team members blasting at each other just to make sure no one is a spy. but since i was playing a spy i killed them all Mwuahahaha.

(Mustang) #29

So what is the way to tell an enemy in dur skies?

(Realirony) #30

Other operatives can see enemy operatives in disguise (if i remember correctly).
also a disguised operative cannot shoot or perform any abilities without breaking disguise. so if you see a kid on ur team just kinda lurking around or not shooting or anything, thats probably a baddie or a spy.

(Maawdawg) #31

If the “buff this guy?” prompt doesn’t pop up he isn’t on your team.

(Realirony) #32

I was about to say “what if you aren’t a class that can ‘buff’” but then I realized that the only class that cannot buff (i.e. health, ammo, wep dmg) is the Operative, who would see a disguised enemy anyway… well played sir

(Mustang) #33

Good tips

@Maawdawg Did you see this when playing yourself, or it’s just a guess?

(Maawdawg) #34

I didn’t run into anyone disguised when I played (not that got close enough to check that way anyway) but I remember it being mentioned in a preview as a way to tell. I actually didn’t see a lot of operative being played at PAX, I only played a bit myself, most people were playing soldier and engineer in the first round, and there were a LOT of medics the second time I got to play.

Console player here.

When I played MAG, it was really objective-oriented, and with 128 people per team, you really needed each squad and each person to pitch in and help. They had a vote-kick system in place where if the majority voted someone out, they were gone. For example, if a team of 8 had 5 votes to kick someone, they were gone. It was unobtrustive enough, a little red text appeared temporarily at the top of the screen saying how many people were voting to kick Idiot1487, then you could enter the scoreboard and hit a button to also vote to kick.

I would like to have a reason though, even as a console player. Say you open the scoreboard and want to elect someone to kick, have it come up with 4 reasons which correspond to the 4 buttons (x, square, circle, triangle, or a b x y for Xbox). Idling, TKing, Hacking, Griefing, etc whatever they’d deem deserveable of a kick.

EDIT: But, I will add, this system -can- be abused. I played with a few players, and one well, has his issues. Periodically, he wouldn’t like someone’s name, so he’d blare out “TryingToPlay43 is attacking me! he just shot me in the head! kick him now!” even though he wasn’t. Just to see if he could get him kicked (you know, some people online have problems). Other than that, the kick system worked 90% of the time I’d say.

If there is a votekick based on team kills, I’d really appreciate it if exceptions were made if a player was killed by an explosive placed on an objective. As an old-time Wolf:ET player I spectacularly killed half my team (of total muppets) who refused to move off the dynamite I’d placed on the objective, and then votekicked me for killing them when it went off.

(Realirony) #37

if there is vote-kicks im sure itll have some sort of limitation to it. Perhaps it has to be a unanimous vote or you can only kick 1 person per match or per 10mins. Something like that to reduce the abuses with it.

We’ll figure it out in 1 week and some change anyway. I’m ready to see how full MP will be handled

Teamkills in the last game I played with kicking was capped at 5. So you could TK 5 times in a game before you were kicked. If you TK 5 times in a game before it’s over (10-20 min games) you’re probably doing something wrong? Especially since grenades don’t kill, they just incap/down.
