Question about the Machine Gun Nests

(Jess Alon) #1

Right @ 2:23 a guy is sneaking up on a guy that’s using a “Machine gun nest”.

How do the mechanics work for this?

Can engineers place them anywhere or only in predetermined locations?

Are there different kinds? (Damage, Fire rate, Accuracy)

Can they be upgraded or built faster depending on perks?

How much protection do the ones with the shields offer?

(Obviously QUESTION FOR DEVELOPERS)

Machine gun nests are pre-determined. They are not deployed like turrets, but rather simply assembled. There will be gun nests located at pre-determined locations in a map, where Engineers simply need to “repair” or build them to bring them online.

Yeah, I heard that, too. Now if we can just figure out the landmine thing, we’ll be good.

(Baumbo) #4

Can you blow the turrets up? If you can, then how? In W:ET you can throw the dynamite and blow an MG nest up… But no class has dynamite (or its equivalent).

Edit: Operatives have sticky bombs. I forgot.

(Herandar) #5

Satchel Charge?

(Jess Alon) #6

I figured it was something like that. How about protective properties? The face shield in that picture, is it supposed to just look cool or does it divert fire from the front?

(Wraith) #7

Sounds about right. Engineers build, soldiers destroy, operatives hack.

(Schwarzeis) #8

I think they are on fixed locations, maybe random spawned?

And that there are different nests depending on the level of an ability, who knows? :stuck_out_tongue:

It could also work with normal grenades and/or general damage.

Very good engineer!

Hrm… actually kind of an interesting evolution, to me anyway.

MG construction points are at set places in the levels, and Engineers of either faction can construct them. They can then be used by anybody, and they can’t be destroyed or damaged once constructed.

We’ve had them be faction-specific and damageable, but those didn’t work as well as we would’ve liked in playtests. They have standard-ish overheat meters like in many other shooters, and thus have infinite ammo.

(Fireseed) #12

Thanks for the clarification @ Exedore!

(Otto) #13

maybe this is a dumb question but… “pre-determined” + “fixed locations” = traps and head shot camping points?

Well… That was pretty much everything that we wanted to know and more

… Except for these things:

  • Will the shield actually protect your head, as seen in the A Matter of Class trailer?
  • Will the machine guns have different looks depending on what team constructed it?
  • Will they be overpowered?

Yeah I wanna know how well the nests provide cover. Obviously if it’s wall(cover?) mounted someone can get headshots in on you. But can you shoot around the one in the picture? Is the shield cosmetic or functional? How protected on average is a turret operator? Because it could be a great tactical weapon if used correctly as it would allow lights and mediums to fire heavy weaponry with a bit of protection to boot.

(nincek) #16

You can see a little spacing between the two glass frames on the turret. I’m guessing you can easily shoot through there if you have a steady hand. His body is also exposed for quite a lot.

(Apples) #17

If it’s ala ETQW (mounted weapon on vehicles) you will just gain “something like an armor”, I mean if you hit the guy he’ll just loose less health than he would normally do if he wasnt behind his turret.

But I have not any real clue of how it’ll work.

Peace

  1. Yes. There are two types, the standing MG and the mounted MG. The standing MGs have a shield that protects your head but your lower body is exposed, and mounted MGs do not have the shield, but are placed behind solid surfaces so the rest of you is behind cover.
  2. No.
  3. I don’t think so, but I expect that as ever, opinions on this will vary.

Thanks for answering that, Exedore.
