Are there contextual abilities that still take up your active ability slot on console? Meaning if I am an operative and I have the cortex bomb can I use 3 other abilities and that are not cortex bomb. But if I get downed I have the ability to use it then? Or will I have one useless slot while alive and only 2 abilities I can actually use?
Question about the Cortex Bomb and other Contexual Abilities
Hey buddy, was investigating something for another thread and came up with this. Its a picture of the self rez ability for medics. It is purchased and highlighted in the link (being the FB ability of the day) and down at the bottom right next to (B) done the (X) map to the directional pad is shaded out. This makes me believe that, even though you actually have to activate self rez when downed, it is unmappable and acts like a passive ability. I’m going to go ahead and assume that cortex bomb is the same way.
Cool so you won’t be penalized for taking abilities that you only use in specific situations. That’s good. Thanks.
When you are incapped, you have a different screen overlay, and all button contexts are changed anyway. I don’t see any reason for cortex bomb or self-revive to take up an active slot.
Maybe. I just want to know everything right now…is that so much to ask
This make sense. Same buttons do different things depending on the context of the player (like infantry/vehicle binds).
It seems to me those are still active abilities though…need to find a vid where a guy has them and see what his HUD looks like while playing.
The funny thing is, I saw a vid from Pax I think on youtube yesterday that showed a guy using the self rez. For the life of me I cannot find it again.
It was a little silly. He ran face first into a lot of fire power, self rezed and with in 2 seconds was back on his ass incapacitated.
Buffs also don’t take up a slot, yet are a purchasable/selectable ability you need to activate.
Interesting. I always envisioned some of them having to be mapped. Less clutter on my d-pad. Winning.
Edit: How does the game differentiate if you want to heal or life buff someone.
Is there a life buff anymore, or is it just the adrenaline active ability? I suspect the latter.

I envision the self-revive ability working like any other revive, except you don’t have to wait for the medic to toss you a syringe.
Indeed. The video I saw had it as an extra option while you were in the incapacitation state. It was like 1) wait for medic 2) revive yourself 3) respawn all in individual boxes.
Yeah, I deleted that response because I realize I was misinterpreting. See above.
Perhaps some do, but I know Life Buff doesn’t.

I think they are kinda one in the same. Perhaps tapping it heals and holding it down buffs.
