Question about the bots for Devs

When someone is playing a drops out of the game. The bot that takes their place. Does that bot just retain the character features of the person it’s replacing?

Or is there generally a pre-programmed set of features that the bots usually have?

Are they randomly generated?

Or do they have to work with the framework of the character they replaced?

I’m curious about how that works.

Because if I’m playing but I jump off. Will there be a bot that looks like my character who is not my character hanging around to finish the match? You could see how that could be amusing or even confusing for my teammates.

Or will a randomly generated character pop up? And are bots so randomly generated that you can’t tell them from real players?

I remember aaggesss ago the devs were taking on feedback about ETQW bots to try and make Brink bots better… the thread is lying rotting somewhere if you care for a read.

I have heard that if you go idle, you can let a bot control your character for you.

Don’t know what happens if you quit though.

I’d like to hear some comments from the devs about this too.

That was removed, I don’t believe they could get it to work as smoothly as they’d liked. If you idle too long, you get dropped from the server but a bot still takes your place.

And no offense to the devs. But a comprehensive answer would be best.

Like what determines how a bot’s abilities and costume are generated if it starts the match instead of replacing someone.

And if when someone drops out does the bot pick up in the exact position on the map as the person who dropped out or do they spawn from a predetermined destination?

Does that bot retain all the characteristics of the player the bot replaced?

If someone replaces a bot obviously they will spawn from a start point so they aren’t disoriented by spawning into chaos. But a bot can spawn into the action knowing what’s happening and pick right up. And I’m wondering if that’s what splash damage did.

The point i’m politely trying to make is, putting “for the devs” in the title isn’t going to make them comment any more. Exedore, Bezzy and others comment if they can… though a lot of the time it depends if badman has his pants on or not.

Since I’m a nice guy (honest), here’s the thread asking for feedback. And another.

That’s incredibly helpful. Can I address future topics I make, “For DarkangelUK”, it will make me feel most special when you acknowledge me. :wink:

Shame about the bots not stepping in like in L4D, the idle timer solves the issue of zombie players but not if you need to go off for a widdle or deal with something for a couple of minutes.
