Question About "Pubs" from a new player.

Hey so from what iv read online it seems like ranked in AUS/Asia is non-existent. So people have turned to something called “Pubs” for ranked gameplay? i dont really understand this. Does playing in pubs or pugs as iv seen people call it give u a rank? like silver or gold at the end of the season or is it just like a ladder thing on a 3rd party website? and can someone link me any AUS pubs/pugs?

pubs are public games, ie: quick join or server browser
pugs are Pick Up Games, usually set up on irc

i dont know how it looks in aus, but go to DBnation.net and get the discord, people meet there for stuff like that

Since Ranked in AUS/Asia is practically non existent I believe some of those players have turned to PUGS. PUGs do not give you a Rank but they are more organized and focused around the “competitive” side of DB.

We were running pugs almost daily about 3 months to a month ago but in all honesty we haven’t ran one for a few weeks now. Everyone kind of gave up & the Aus pug player base was diminishing so we just pulled the pin on it for a while. Someone asked me two days ago to start running some again but when I logged on last night to try and play Dirty Bomb I was only showing 4 people online in game so I didn’t bother. A few weeks ago I was regularly showing 30+ people online. Everyone is off playing Overwatch or Counter Strike it seems.

Feel free to add me though, if you want in on the pug games when/if we do them again. I’m keen and I know a few others are but at this stage in time it’s really just waiting for the players to return if they ever do.

As for the pugs though they’re really just organized 5v5 pub matches. We run the DBN rules (no duplicate mercs, each team bans a merc etc) and just hand pick captains and teams to try and get some balanced games in. We’ve had a few people join in on pugs who never returned because they felt like they were out of their league though, so my only suggestion is learn as many characters as you can if you’re new and don’t be that guy who just insta-locks Vassili wanting to do some quick scopes (believe me, we’ve had a few lol) :wink:

Aus had a Cg ladder that died way back, near the end of 2015. Besides playing ranked, there’s no rankings to be had anywhere else.
Dbnation offered to host an aus/Asia cup, but unfortunately we couldn’t even find enough teams.

Pugs are the only thing close to any sort of competitive gameplay atm and like Dox said, they haven’t been very active lately.
If you had hopes of joining a team and playing competitively, you should probably pick a different game tbh.
