Question about Multiplayer

I’d say it’s largely because everyone turned their backs on PC gaming to some degree. That there isn’t a financial motivation to push PC gaming as a platform, unlike the licensing money that consoles give their creators.

It’s a decision made purely through account books and has nothing to do with what is better for the consumer. The more in the dark you are about your choices the more willing you’ll be to accept the $60 price tags, DLC, control and gameplay compromises.

I guess I’m most sad about this because the blogs should be the ones to push this point. They should be shouting about poor PC support and ports, shaming these companies in the cold hard light of all their readers. Yet if you scour Joystiq or Kotaku the predominant PC related stories are concerning piracy.

wo.
by all means, tell your friends, everyone should experiance halflife 2+episodes and a bit of tf2 even if its not their cup of tea they can see what else is out there.
Maybe you should get some of your buds to try left 4 dead. There is a demo for the new one thats soon to be released up at the moment.

There’s so much cool stuff on the PC that is being missed by console gamers (undoubtely the other way around as well I guess). The Half Life series are definitely a must.

At least they got Quake 4 on the consoles. That’s some consolidation.

The Orange Box was released on consoles as well…

(Shiv) #25

Yes, but it sucks on consoles, tf2 had nothing but issues for a fair while on it (dont know if its fixed) , the player numbers where lame (hello mw2) and no mods…
o and gimped graphics…

(Exedore) #26

Well, only 360… those that are Playstation focused are pretty much as disconnected to the PC gaming scene as it can get (with the possible exception of the Wiis).

Valve is in a unique position due to their masterful positioning of Steam, they see more direct revenue by %age from their software than any other developer. There aren’t many other developers who have that luxury, most simply can’t afford to ignore entire platforms.

I will do that. I’m spending more time on PC games than console games now  I might invest in a decent gaming machine instead of my non gaming mac (my mac seems to be specifically designed to fail at games).

PC games are actually much better than I thought. I’m disappointed that i didn’t start playing PC games earlier, I have missed out so much :frowning:

Both Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory and Open Arena are excellent free Win/Mac/Linux games based on Quake 3 and Quake 3 Arena. Worth checking them out

(timestart) #29

Well, maybe not so much Open Arena - Quake Live is a better free to play Quake 3.

(Nail) #30

afaik, Quake Live is Win only, not much good for Mac, won’t run under Crossover

(DarkangelUK) #31

QL is out for Mac and Linux

(Nail) #32

my mistake, I just read the spec not the news, been a while since I was on that site

(RoryGreen) #33

Cool, I didn’t know Quake Live was for mac now. I’ll install that now
