Question about lights in a map

(TubS) #1

Hey u guys, im new with mapping for ET and its working quite well but is there a thing, entity to light up the whole map? cause now i need to make alot of little lights evertime and its a lot of work and very boring to do, som maybe some of you can help me

thx allready

If your map has outdoor areas, use a sky shader (textures/skies_sd/sd_siwasky for example) for those areas. Not all sky shaders are working (search the forum for this). To get basic lighting in your map (and therefore in buidings, too), you can use the _minlight or ambient key in worldspawn - search the forum for these keywords. Use light entities to refine the lighting.

ok thx for the help so far, im gonna look it up

edit:

ok i went to entity list and selected worldspawn, then i pressed N so the entity list came up.

Made a new key called ambient with value 15 and pressed enter
made a new key called _color with value 1 1 1

tested and worked, when my first map is done im gonna send some screens

THX for all the help

Tubs, while I think ambient and _color are a very good way to give a map an overall basic brightness, I d say that 15 for ambient is quite a bit. Depending on which atmosphere you want for your map, maybe try out a value of 12 and 8 too, just to see the difference. 15 makes things pretty bright already.
