Question about Changing Characters

I’m not sure if this has been covered before, and I apologise if it has, but i had a question about changing your character. I know that you can change body size between games, but can you change your character if you want to play differently? For example, if I was playing as character X who had been levelled as a medic, and wanted to change to character Y who had been levelled as an engineer, can i also do that between games, or only when i quit from the game?

I think you can make that decision before a map starts. Atleast I would hope so.

You can change in game during the match as special stations.

Cheers, that clears things up a bit. It would just make more sense if it was done that way.
