question about aimpunch, snipers, and client side hit detection

(moonlitAbility) #1

so i originally was in support of aim punch due to ‘realism’, and it being sold as a way to counter snipers. My experience however seems to be that with snipers in-particular, i can unload on them full auto with a smg but they still seem to be able to nail headshots like its not affecting them.

is anyone else experiencing this? and if so, know why? I dont really snipe… does aimpunch affect you less in the scope? or maybe with the hit detection being client side, are they able to get a shot off before aimpunch registers on their end? with their rifle being a potential 1 hit kill, I would think snipers would need to be affected by it more than anyone…

if aim punch isnt actually hurting snipers I feel like it should be removed, as it seems like it unfairly punishes the mercs using burst rifles/m14/shotguns/low hp mercs

Yea, it really doesn’t do jack to Snipers, and anyone who thought it did was horribly misled.

They might be using focus, but aimpunch seems to affect every weapons except those that it should

It used to, then everybody and their mother yelled and screamed and it was nerfed 4-5 times in a row until it is pointless.

A lot of the aimpunch/flinch that used to be in the game has been removed. Combine that with many people playing Vassili using cards that include Focus and they basically have almost no shake when being shot while scoped.

ugg… in that case can we remove it? or fix it? i know when im using burst rifles, it often DOES knock me off my spot right as i fire… a shot that if i hit i kill them, but i miss and i die.

i know when im on a hochfir, i barely notice it’s there. a guy that is scoped in should be more affected by it than anybody, since any movement is more sensitive. fix it or drop it please.

does anyone else use a lot of burst rifles, and/or redeyes m14? it feels like these guns inparticular are hit hard by aimpunch, but the others not so much.

this is from a june discussion that was on reddit i believe where a SD dev discussed aimpunch and its benefits:

‘View-kick (or aim-punch / pain-twitch if you prefer) has been part of Dirty Bomb since at least August 2012 and serves several purposes:
In no uncertain terms it lets you know you’re taking damage
It gives players a defence against snipers, by means of suppressing fire
It puts a little more emphasis on anticipation, positioning, reaction time in by rewarding the first hit more’

which led ME to believe it was useful vs snipers. but now i feel like it punishes the non sniper marksman, and basically the guns that are the hardest/most ackward to use as it is

Oh, I always thought I just aim punched myself in the head with the snippy rifle. I’m not sure if this is better or worse alternative, usually I just pretended I was the one who got the sweet headshot, on myself

Aimpunch & Snipers:

A ) Snipers going for bodyshots score accidental headshots thanks to aimpunch.

B ) Snipers going for headshots will miss completely.

Working as intended.

Okay that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but it does happen at times.

Vassili is one case where many perks actually make some sense so he gets Focus.

i mean, in theory… if aimpunch is somewhat about ‘realism’… wouldnt anyone looking down a scope feel aim punch MORE? since smaller movements are magnified?

i may be a lil high, but is this not a true statement: if a scoped sniper feels the same amount of aimpunch as my nonscoped br-16 user, overall the snipers aim is impacted less than the br-16 user?

I answered this above.
