Question about aiming in general.

If you don’t have desk space, that’s difficult of course. Those computer desks are pretty bad for gaming unfortunately. :frowning: Perhaps you can improve the situation a bit by switching to a tenkeyless keyboard, if you haven’t already? There are even super small keyboards without the arrow key block, and those are perfectly fine for gaming. Something like the Razer Orbweaver could be another option to save space, but then you’d have to find another space for your keyboard while gaming.

Then use the biggest mouse mat you can fit, even if part of it is under the keyboard. Also if you get something like a QCK pad, you could go the extreme way and cut it to size. Best would be to get a different desk or separate surface for the mouse of course.
Thanks for the tips. Just so you know, I’m currently using a Roccat Arvo (basically the smallest keyboard I have) and a R.A.T. 7 mouse. I’m using an old Razer Destructor mat, which is 50% covered by the keyboard. I’ll persevere with the mouse tweaking, I think, and see if I can get a smaller keyboard.

Aim has definitely improved since the change, even if my k/d ratios are still pretty horrible.
Hello there folks.
P.S. If you’ve seen any grammar or other kinds of mistakes in my post, feel free to correct me. English is not my first language and I’m learning it pretty much by myself so any kind of support is appreciated.
Your English is GREAT!

But it’s an odd language  You say ‘usefull’ which is exactly what you’d expect (FULL of USE…) but for reasons lost in the mists of time, the actual word is ‘useful’ (only one ‘L’…)! But overall, you’re perfectly understandable

This is a great thread!

do people bother burst firing/pulling down for recoil?

i just spray full on. either they’re not far enough anyway (a lot off the time), or the SMG range is surprisingly far.

i haven’t played much with AR’s, i’d imagine they’re like automatic sniper rifles.

Pulling down? Not really, at least not on the weapons that I use (mostly SMG’s like you)

Bursting? At long ranges, yes please burst, when hipfiring. Personally I dislike ADS’ing in this game (visual recoil) so I just sacrifice some DPS by bursting from the hip at longer ranges to allow me to not ADS.

so i googled it, ive been reading through it for a bit and when i got to the part where he talks about the USB and PS2 poling rates and how to tweak them i found out that its different in Win8.1. So i googled on how to tweak the mouse poling rate on Win8.1 and i came across this article.

The mouse poling rate is set to 125Hz on Win8 and Win8.1 by default :open_mouth: fortunately there is a fix!

Hope someone finds that helpful!
Cheers

Good stuff in this post, good info. And just to add to the knowledge pool, here’s my input. I’m pushin 40yo, been playin competitive fps/arena style shooter games since UT99 and UT2k4 TDM and CTF with clan Curse «c». I’ve also always had an unhealthy obsession for mouse hardware and settings etc as they relate to this type of discussion. I earned my nickname zeus for my skill with UT2K4’s Lightning Rifle. A few things I’ve learned over the years.

Cross-hair placement.

(For Dirty Bomb, my mouse setup as follows-
G303 mouse, windows mouse sens 6/12. Windows 7, 400dpi/1k hz polling. In game sens= 4ish. Also, google “MarkC mouse fix”)

Adjust video settings till you achieve a steady 70-90fps, ATLEAST… at all times. If you can’t…time to upgrade.

laser sensors are bad. no exceptions.
optical sensors are better. no exceptions.
not all optical sensors are the same.
400dpi= best feel. for me and others.
more than 1k dpi= absolutely no point…in THIS context.
80-85fov feels best to me.

Cross-hair placement, cross-hair placement…cross-hair placement.

I find the most advantage from arm aiming, rather than wrist aiming. IE- lock your wrist, use entire arm movements for most of your aiming, then fine tune/aim using ONLY your fingers/hand, keeping wrist locked 95% of the time.

Cross-hair placement.

Get the biggest mouse pad you can fit on your desk…then make an effort to use as much of it as possible for mouse space. I found a 36"x18" (914mmx455mm) cloth mouse pad on amazon for somethin like $20. Made by a company called Perixx. Big steel series xxl pad to the left. Keyboard (corsair k70) sits half on perixx pad, half on steel series. The rest of the big pad for mouse surface.

I’ve owned every high end mouse from every well known gaming mouse manufacturer that has ever released a mouse. Minus a few of the Kone offerings. My favorite company= Logitech. Favorite mouse ever- MX518/G400s, and currently tied with the G303.

Cross-hair placement.

The downside to my play-style is that I cannot keep up with high sensitivity smg/shotgun/AR players up-close/super short range. I just cannot move my arm fast enough, and most sniper sidearms are pretty weak if you miss the first shot with the sniper. I’m one of the stubborn assholes that ONLY plays the sniper char in shooter games, so take my experiences with a grain of salt.

ohhh…

Meanwhile I’ve learnt that outc1der plays with a super high sensitivity of about 23cm/360. This was a surprise to me, because watching him play, his crosshair movement looks really slow while he moves around. This goes to show that he is not using the high sensitivity so he can flick and turn like a madman, but only so that he can always use his wrist and fingers even while tracking fast targets. It seems like he forces himself to move his hand with extreme deliberation.

There is something to be said for both styles, and I guess the jury is still out as to what will be most popular with DB. It may even differ depending on the weapons or roles players prefer. What is indisputable though is that you need to be able to track a fixed spot flawlessly while moving, so that’s a decent way to calibrate your sensitivity.

A common technique is to start with a 360 turn over the whole mousepad (or usable mousing area), then try tracking a fixed spot while strafing and reduce or raise sensitivity until it feels just right.

(Chirs) #29

Because of my tiny desk space, I was struggling to get a decent amount of movement using 400dpi, which meant my sensitivity was getting too high (13+).

I’m gradually getting better results with the native DPI of my mouse, which is 5,600 and sensitivity of around 1 (still messing about with it and probably need to try that fixed spot tracking thing).

Weirdly, the in-game settings UI lets you do increments of 0.1, whereas the Lobby/Menu one only seems to work in round numbers.

(Zeus33rd) #30

Is there a console command that could be used to change sensitivity, on the fly in-game? I remember being able to do that in unreal engine 1 & 2…but can’t remember it now.

(Cynix) #31

The command is “setsensitivity” (one word) IIRC

(Zeus33rd) #32

Oooo…Yep that sounds familiar. TY sir.

High in game sensitivity or high DPI is exactly the same. The only reason to increase DPI is increased precision, but 400 and 800 are proven to be more than enough for reasonable resolutions, so there is no practical difference going beyond that.

The game/engine does have a bug though with low in game sensitivities (< 5), where small mouse movements are ignored while scoped with the sniper at least. Until that is fixed, I wouldn’t recommend using high DPI values, and you can never go wrong with 400 to 800 really.

I am now using 800 DPI / 7, which is the same as 400 DPI / 14 or 5600 DPI / 1. So exactly the same as yours, and while that’s quite high, it’s still perfectly okay for wrist aim. It’s on the highest end of what well known CS:GO pros use, and that’s not because of desk space.

Please create a thread in the Technical Support section for your issue.

Thanks!

i used to have target tracking issues until i switched the FOV to 90 which i use in most FPS games that offer 90FOV “i was an idiot and i didnt know there was a FOV slider”… anyway i use 33cm/360… also note that sniper scope sensitivity and default hipfire sensitivity is different due to the FOV different and the game not having uniformed soldier aiming…
