q3map2 version criterion

(Q.) #1

Hi!
There are a lot of versions of q3map2.
So here is a question.
Which version can be in the same directory, say, can share the same modules?
And which version is friendly to which version of radiant?
Please clarify this as shown below.
Thanks in advance.

ex)
era01 2.3.1 - 2.3.4, radiant 1.2.11
era02 2.5.3 - 2.5.7, radiant 1.3.8
era03 etc…

It’s generally a good idea to install Q3Map2 in its own directory with its own modules and DLLs, unless you’re using a version that came with GtkRadiant.

Q3Map2 is built on the latest GtkRadiant code, which is usually a few releases ahead of what most people have installed.

Thank you ydnar for your reply.
But you have not yet answered my question. :bored:

THANK YOU YDNAR! BUT OUR PRINCESS IS IN ANOTHER CASTLE

Q.
The answer is simple: make separate subdirectories for every version you want to use and write a batch file to switch.
a) its most easiest to do so
b) it’ll prevent from incompatibilities (better don’t waste time on searching them, rather concentrate on your map  )
If you absolutely want to find out, use a compare tool to check for versions that share the same files. But you won’t be very lucky i fear.
c) better use latest build, it has so many nice features

(Q.) #6

Fracman, you don’t answer my question, too. :disgust:
I decided to ask here just because I didn’t want to do what you said.

(Fracman) #7

Heh, Q., I guess no one can really answer to that question without trying to find out the differences…
At least there is one major difference between older and newer versions: these use VC 7 DLLs… but you certainly know this already, eh?

(Q.) #8

Yes, I briefly know the major criterion around vc7 or something like that.
(btw, size of q3map2.x86 has heavily grown up around there…)
IIRC, there was another criterion before.

hmm…
O.K.
I’ll forget all about this then concentrate on rather new versions.

BTW please call me Q instead of Q…
Q was already reserved when registering thus Q… :banghead:
But actual reservation should be q, not Q.

q, you asked what versions work with radient and ydnar cleary stated that q3map2 is ahead of gtkradient (and that newer q3map2 probably wont work with it). to make gtk use q3map2 in a different folder edit your project file in base/scripts. easy

(Fracman) #10

Heh that again was not the right answer

BTW please call me Q instead of Q…

OK, Q, I won’t call you anymore Q. nor Q…
Sorry for the slight misspelling
