q3map2 on Linux - dependency hell! Statically-linked binary?

(Le Tenebreux) #1

Hi!

I am experiencing dependency hell - libxml, libgcc, the list goes on - trying to run q3map2 on some “interesting” multi-processor Linux boxen.

I have no admin access, the machines run RH 6.2, soon to be RH 7.??

Is there, or could there be, a statically-linked version of q3map2 for Linux?

TIA,

Le T.

You could always get the correct .so files and put them in the same directory as Q3Map2.

Doing a statically linked version at this point would be a major pain in the ass, not to mention huge and potentially buggy.

That said, the source is available via CVS on zerowing.idsoftware.com, and if you care to contribute a modified set of cons build scripts to do a static build, I might merge them into the tree.

Doh!

I wasn’t aware you could get away with the shared obj files being in the same directory…

Thanks for that pointer!

Modifying the build stuff? Ooohh, I’ll have a bash…I’ve fancied getting a build environment for the nightlys going and this is just the excuse /me needs…As You Will, So Mote It Be  !
