q3map2 crashes on VIS stage *solved*

(heyhey) #1

Hello

Without any reason, q3map2 crashes on VIS stage, on the PassagePortalFlow computation. (it crashes on 5th or 6th step)

i have no error message in GTKRadiant regarding brushes or something…Neither in q3map2 (2.5.11)

this is the kind of problem that can’t be tracked…

so if anyone has an idea on where it can comes from, i would be so pleased. Spending so much time on a map and can’t finish it :frowning:

How long do you wait?
You could also try to use brushcleanup.
And then try again.

i don’t wait a lot. something like 30-40 min…until it crashes

i use brush cleanup regularly. As i said above, i have no error messages in Radiant or Q3map2

EDIT: 30-40 min, maybe a little more (around 1 hour)

With proper mapping techniques, your BSP and VIS stages shouldn’t take that long. Most compiles that I do only take a few seconds to a couple of minutes at most. You should only expect long compile times with the LIGHT stage.

Make sure that you are using a detail brushes and also check for leaks and entities in the void or inside brushes.

How are your hint brushes and structural caulk brushes? Make sure you plan them out accordingly, it can shave off a huge amount of time required to calculate BSP and VIS.

finally i made it work !!!

yeah!

i was using oc, so i changed the cpu speed back to te factory settings, and also made the virtual memory managed by Windows, not fixed.

so…

finally i’m the only responsible for these crashes

sry for that.

anyway, hope it will help some that could have te same pb.
