Hmmm I wonder if you guys can help me with this rather odd problem I’m having with q3map (released after the one that came with GTK1.2.1) and q3map2.
I want to use the later versions of q3map & q3map2 for it’s terrain shading wizardry but when I did some tests I got some unexpected results which have taken a couple of months to figure out what it’s doing; the maps all render ‘dark’. I understand that you have to increase the values for light entities slightly but after several tests over several months I finally realised what the problem was; light entities arn’t being compiled at all. The parculiar thing is surfacelights given off by shaders/texture base light fitings and light emitted from skyshaders all work fine, game related entities render, Ai’s, weapons etc… etc… nothing from that score is missing, the only things that don’t are lights, lightjuniors and dlights.
Running on XP pro, I’ve got 2 installs of GTK to separate folders (wolf only 1.2.1 and AllGame 1.2.9 + .10 update) and an install of q3map2 unpaked to it’s own folder (with q3map2tools and other GUI’s pointing to that). Right now GTK1.2.1 works ‘properly’ in that if I do a -vis -light compile I get a map lit the way I’d expect it to be (the main reason for using the newer version of q3map is to remove the shadows around the edges of trisouped brushwork which anything over a -light compile with 1.2.1 shows up), the problem happens when I move to either 1.2.10 and above or to q3map2.
I’ve tried simply swapping over the various q3maps into GTK1.2.1’s ‘build’ folder (where the *.exe’s are) and compiling with the same error results above. I’ve uninstalled GTK and Wolf a couple of times and tried a clean install, same dark maps. I’ve removed the the scripts and entities.def file to allow the defaults to install and again same problem.
The really wierd thing is this problem only shows itself when compiling for RtCW, another project for Q3 has absolutely no problems and this has me flummoxed…!! As a result it’s got me thinking this isn’t a problem with the later versions of q3map persay, but something to do with my wolf setup, problem is I can’t figure out what as I gone thru all of the usual ‘make sure paths are pointing in correct place/folder/compiler/GUI…’ and I’ve run out of ideas… has anyone had this problem or know what’s going on/got a fix for it as I’d really like to use q3map2 terrain magic…
big thx in advance as this has been quite a big ‘issue’ for me…!
:banghead:
[EDIT]was just looking thru that latest test (done with using q3map that came w GTK1.2.10) when I noticed that light entities targeted at info_nulls seem to work
