Q3map directory setup for linux, just making sure.

(shadowspawn) #1

ok, I figured this would work since setting up a q3 server is like this, but im ‘somtimes’ getting missing shaders, sometimes not. seems to be some stock q3 ones, not sure.

If it’s what I’m thinking, its from broken shaders with the stock gtk installation and needed map media pk3’s aren’t in there, easy enough to fix. But what I’m doing is basically cron’ing a map on a nix machine that’s a bit faster then anything I have laying around and I’ve never done this before. Everything is in my homedir except the pak’s in baseq3, so I will probably have to add the mapmedia ones in.

This is the test commandline for now, I like screen.

screen /usr/local/games/quake3/gtkradiant/./q3map2 -fs_basepath "/usr/local/games/quake3" -fs_game "wfa" -light -fast -fastgrid -v -super 2 -thresh .075 -threads 4 -connect someip:14685 "/home/shadowspawn/.q3a/wfa/maps/bulfort4.map"

output:

But anyway, does that look right? Am I being redundant anywhere?

ps.

the q3map ‘listen’ server rocks, yea screen could do the same thing but i mean hey, its outputting to a file on a website so anyone can monitor it.

-edit-

it was the ‘fixit’ pk3 that comes with gtk.

ok, i tried this on a different machine, with smp as well (dualie).

i have enough permission to nice/renice, but it only works by bogging down one processor, and all machines i had access to are definitely smp, other apps running more then one thread will peg all cpu’s (q3 with 20 bots and smp, for instance).

unless i am a total newb and can’t figure this out, but heck i was even able to get a temp su password so it cant be permissions, this was a tease
