Q3Map 2.3.38

Win32 (x86) - Linux (x86) - Darwin/Mac OS X (PPC) (2.3.36) - Readme

2.3.38 (2003-02-06)

- New lighting code, return of Smoove-B. Intelligently antialises shadow edges
when you use the new -samples N switch. Get -extra quality in 1/3 the time
- New lightmap filtering code. Now using a proper 0.25/0.5/1.0 filter kernel.
Also operates on individual lightsources, so per-lightsource filter/kernel
  settings are now possible
- New -patchmeta fixes, now does stitching and adaptive subdivision.
  Thanks Sock!
- Nonsolid patches will no longer be in the BSP when run with -patchmeta
- Misc fog fixes, including q3map_noFog support in maps with global _fog
  support (SOF2/JK2)
- Now stripping misc_model entities from the BSP
- Fixed disappearing face bug that's been present since 2.3.36.
  Thanks Shadowspawn!

Diagram of the new adaptive antialiasing algorithm:

Final compiles using -samples N instead of -super N should take 1/3 the time, and use 1/4 the RAM. Give it a shot…

does this mean that we can drop the usage of the -extra param and still get the same/similar effects?

Very nice. It’s comming right in time for my new map.

Great stuff ydnar. Thanks for this new build! Should one use -filter with -samples? Or is -filter now obsolete?

Want it… want it… want it… :blah: :eek2:  :eek3:

Umm, compile time for the -light stage went up by as much as 50% compared to 2.3.37 (same settings of course). I’m using _mingridlight and _ambient with a few texturelights.

Also, q3map2 doesn’t really seem to use the color information in the “q3map_lightimage …” textures. :???: In my first map I used quite a lot of small (16x64) texture lights with surfacelight values around 1k. Even though both the main and the lightimage textures have relatively saturated colors, the light they’re emitting is completely white. The old q3map produced no such arifacts. See screenshots of the correct version here:

( BTW this isn’t a recent bug, it’s been there since version 2.2 or so… I’m just a bit lazy  )
