Its one of the most popular game types on the 360 yet theres no voip, i thought the game was supposed to be about team work and thats a litte difficult if you can communicate with your team. the games just sound so dead without a little chatter. so put public voip into standard game type.
Put Public VOIP In Standard Matchmaking
I second this: please make VOIP on and easy as the server default for PC.
The trick is to make a fireteam. Or make friends. Or both. Or play Competitive or Old Skool.
I’m aware, but the threshold to participation is so high people don’t opt in. It’s a far better solution to make people take a moment to mute a problem child than it is to have the server and every player navigate Brink’s… simplistic guis.
The game feels dead and lifeless, except on the rare occasion that I end up on a clan server or one where people have figured out that VOIP is on. Defaults are a powerful thing, it’s a simple fix and I think it would help Brink’s community stay afloat.
I understand the design decision behind mute by default, and letting the objective wheel do the talking. This was to make the game more accessible to people that are scared off by the aggressive atmosphere of mp fps’s, at the expense of strategic communication.
Brink, at this point, is not a game that’s going to have mass appeal. It was a good try, but at this point it’s a niche game for people that love team-centric gameplay. The challenge now is retaining those people. VOIP off by default is at odds with that goal.
It’s a five minute fix (unless they’ve done truly awful things to idTech4) and it’s universally asked for, at least on PC.
making fireteams is to longwinded why not have public voip and then if you only want to talk to your friend make a fireteam otherwise might aswell just be playing with bots
The request people are making here is that the players who are happy with the way it is now should have to take the steps that the current unhappy players don’t want to take. Basically you are asking for a change that will require me to engage in the same number of inconvenient steps as what you are requesting this change over.
Currently you have to make a fireteam. You would apparently prefer that I have to mute people? Why should I have to do the equivalent of what you don’t want to do? It’s as complicated for you to make a fireteam as it is for me to mute everyone I don’t want to hear.
I get that you aren’t used to the current setup or find it a pain in the ass. That’s how I feel about every game with public VOIP on. I’ll agree with plenty of the current suggestions to make the game better, but this isn’t one that I would prefer.
Either way the system is set up someone is disadvantaged. Every other game out there (almost) is set up the way you prefer. Can’t I have just this one?
*Really not trying to just defend the current system for the sake of it. In all honesty I really prefer it. Granted I have always played online games with my friends. I rarely if ever, no matter what the title, am joining a game of randoms. I’d rather play a single player game or do something else altogether if none of my friends are on. I’d also add if I was playing on PC my personal preference would be using TS, Mumble, or Vent rather than talking to randoms on public VOIP.
Im sorry, but i have to disagee with you on this one. this game is team based and as such requires a basic level of communication. i would vouch that most players have a mic. although only 1/4 would be annoying, as such you would only have to mute the annoyig ones, while we have to inv everyone to our fireteam, and then mute the annoying ones out of that.

That’s cool we don’t have to agree on everything. I don’t think this issue can be divided into a right/wrong answer. If this feature changed I wouldn’t quit the game or be in an uproar raging on these forums, but I prefer the current system.
In my opinion it’s an equivalent amount of inconvenience regardless of whether one side hits 2 buttons more than the other. Both sides are required to take steps that they would prefer not to (navigating menus and pressing buttons). Also you are not counting the inconvenience of people annoying me in the first place when I’m trying to relax which would then prompt my mute. Odds are I would skip the annoying part and mute everyone.
Actually I really skip the whole issue by playing with friends in a party and to hell with everyone else. Hence, it is also very hard for me to comprehend those that find arranging a party an inconvenience or a problem as it is my default mode of operation.
In the meantime, if this issue revolves around anyone having problems scrounging up other people on 360, feel free to friend me and steal from my friend’s list, join our almost nightly game sessions, or check out our site and feel free to find people there regardless of platform.
to be fair tho you said you play in a party mostly so even if there was public voip you would not hear it so there would be no need to mute players i thought the whole point of party chat was so you couldnt hear the public voip unless you choose to.if it dosent really effect you then why would you be opposed to it?
I have about 3 Brink friends added, and like just hopping into matches on standard instead of sending party/game invites to a chunk of my friends. I agree that they should add public chat to all online match types, since it makes no sense to make a game based on communication and teamwork without allowing people to talk to each other.
No disrespect, but “make a fireteam” is a pretty ridiculous solution.
Brink has 8-player teams at most. The entire playerbase is inconvenienced by the locked chat functions, for some theory that the mainstream wants all voicechat blocked by default. It’s pretty stupid. There’s only 8 players on a freaking team. Easy mute functions have been doing much better at this since forever now in online FPS gaming.
-This game feels so empty most of the time.
-There’s no lobby or optimatch or matchmaking system worth mentioning, so for people with a life and limited time for gaming looking to get right into matches, their only decent choice is the matches where bots fill empty slots until replaced by real players.
-Starting a new game alone in Competitive or Old Skool can often see you spending over half an hour waiting before you can finally see a match start
-If your enemy team quits out on you in Comp/Old modes, guess what happens? That’s right, nothing.
-Why no team lobbies? Why no party lobbies? Why no matchmaking lobbies? Why… um…
…oh, crap! I’ve started rambling again. Dammit!
EDIT: I had already posted ^this comment, here… or so I thought, until I spotted it in an entirely different thread.
So, yeah… this be copy-pastas. Yum? -_-
Point was argued over many times prior to release. Basic pro-VOIP argument was there is more motivation to seek out an option to mute someone than there is to enable voip in the hope others have too. Of course SD looked at it from the point of view that people would be motivated to leave the game entirely if they heard a swear word so they took VOIP out back and smashed its kneecaps to a mushy pulp.
Just one of many decisions to neuter the core principles of Multiplayer for the sake of “wider accessibility” and addresses the symptom not the cause.
just do a fire team <_<
some people just want to play the game without having to hear other people.
+1, this should have been the case in the first place. Kind of self defeating to have in a team-based game.
Honestly, i know what SDs thinking behind this was, but it is ridiculous.
If it was done well there would be…
A) VOIP on by default.
B) An easy to find button in the menu that mutes all public VOIP.
Really it’s not that difficult is it?
come on guys there is nobody talking even on servers with voip enabled, with a game full of noobs do you realy think talking makes a difference?^^
Affe, VOIP is turned down for every user by default on PC and had to be enabled over the commandline, so most wont even now or bother to activate it. In europe you got some bonus psychological things on top with people hestistating to talk with strangers and talk in different languages or accent. “i get laughed at with my bad english”, “half the server doesnt understand my language anyway”
I was quite irritating for me too that I joined a server where 3 guys spoke russian. While I would have loved to talk with them, I ended up muting them.
With many things in live, if you want something you gotta start it yourself and hope that people follow your example
And those noobs can use every helping hand they can have. Offer your help and explain if you see something wrong. I had a really nice CC yesterday where i was just commanding them over the map and it was great because they are very objective focused as soon as they know how to find it with the commandwheel:D
well that voip has to be enabled via consol is realy bad i forgot i had to tune my cfg to make it work xD
i wish ppl(including myself) had less psychological probs talking, yesterday i had someone in my team that spoke i dont know what language but after i told him just cry “waffel medic!!” i could make good teamwork with him even if i dont understood 99% of what he was talking to his clanmates
i think im just to frustrated that cant find anyone ingame at the moment that gives me a challange and start bashing noobs a bit too much when i could not get a game started in 3 servers because they where not readying up even if i spamed the chat with “press f3 to rdy up plz”

I completely feel the same
We can only overcome our inhibitions and start doing something positiv. Gives a good feeling when helping others
[QUOTE=Shinigami;366065]just do a fire team <_<

So turn off VOIP. That’s not hard. You can do that in the options, and you only have to do it once. Having to create a fireteam every time is retarded.
