Purchase servers?

This seems like a legit spot to post this! (maybe  )

Will SD and Nexon offer the option to purchase servers, similar to what is offered in Quake Live where you pay for a Pro/Premium account and you can host your own server on demand?

Then when hosting it, you choose what location you want East, West, EU — private with password or public and it would not require 10 players to be in the server but could be roamed around freely then there could be a callvote or rcon command to start the match manually (like DB used to be in Alpha).

This would be a great stepping stone for competitive players and teams so that private servers could be hosted and you could run around with:

A) Your team to design strats and tactics on each map

B) Easier for organizing scrims with other teams and not depend on the handful of Dirtycup private servers.

From what I’ve heard, SD plan to consider a private lobby based system similar to Quake Live.

Personally, I wouldn’t expect to see that for at least 6+ months, if ever. From what I’ve seen playing on private servers, the server side of DB is pretty rough around the edges right now. I believe it will take a lot of effort for them to improve the server software and build the infrastructure necessary to support a private lobby system, and I don’t believe it’s a high priority for them. If the game’s player base explodes then there’s a much better chance of this happening, but at the moment that happening looks increasingly unlikely. Teams have been asking SD to let them pay for private servers or lobbies for years.

What we’ve found works best for going over strats and tactics is to get your team and 5 ā€œhelpersā€ to start one of the private servers, load into the map, then before the game actually starts have the helpers drop out or go spec. You’ll be able to run around in warm up mode indefinitely as long as there aren’t 10 players in the game. You can even change maps in this state and will still be able to run around in warm up mode. One down side is some maps have places you can’t access in warm up mode (train, bridge and underground).

Another thing you can do is connect to a min level 10 server in a region where it’s late night. Public servers only require 2 people to start the game rather than 10, and then you can have everyone except one person go into spec to keep the server in warm up mode indefinitely. However, there’s always the chance that some random person will be playing at 4am and join the server anyway.

Half a year, that might be too late :frowning:

Just to be clear, that timeline is a complete 100% guess on my part. It could happen next week, it could happen never, I don’t know. However, I agree with you; trying to run a team without private servers is annoying at best and not something I have any interest in doing for an extended period of time.
