Public beta release: Sector 47 (screenshots)

(SiX) #1

Here is the first public beta release of Sector 47. It’s gone through a good number of changes after its prior private beta testing phases to improve gameplay, balance and performance. The only thing I’m not entirely comfortable with is the r_speeds. Currently they peak to about the same as radar. I like to keep them below peaks of 25000 although I havn’t heard any complaints about low fps rates, not yet atleast. Check the readme file included with the download for information about reporting bugs and any issues you might come across.

Thanks much.

Nice work! I’m especially fond of that first screenshot, although I can’t pinpoint why. Something about those rolling hills has a calming effect to it. But why is that one tree so crooked? Healthy trees of that size should point straight up.

I look forward to downloading this when I get home.

hey wow!
thats one of the less maps, i really would love to play!
its athmosphere looks perfect.
especially your “love to detail” , its verry special
did you use only textures from ET or also some from RtCW? (except your own texture)

That looks very good, love to play it.
Especialy the outside bit looks very relaxing (just wondering if that’s a pro for ET  )

(SiX) #7

In the end I ended up using 1 or 2 textures from rtcw. I didnt even know it until I ran it on a testbed and found missing textures in that 4th screenshot. I was snooping around my pk3 files in my ‘playable’ version of ET and found that the author (who will remain nameless) of one of the custom maps I had downloaded included the shaderlist.txt file along with his release and also the textures which I was unknowingly ‘borrowing’. I’d like to replace them in the final release just to keep things pure.

I’m saving that list of warnings and notes. It will probably come in handy for the next release. :drink:

And much thanks for the kind comments.

Just had a quick run through and I must say from a visual standpoint that I am absolutely speechless. There’s something about the design/layout of the map that had me dumbfounded. It feels very unique and exciting. Hopefully the server gaming experience correlates as well.

Now for critique/ suggestions:
-Team command post should use the team model, not the netural ones. It’s just confusing to players to see a neutral CP model and not be able to construct it.
-On my first run through I noticed that the coordinates of the key code vault (a dynamite destructible objective) was the same as the main gate (which is satchel destructible). Needlessly to say this is cumbersome and can be confusing. You might want to try layered command map (ala Byzantine, Den of Lions) to keep it simple, e.g., one for outdoor, one indoor. Or just make the icon simpler–anything as long as it’s readily understood when reading the CM.

Please please please can we get a non-fileplanet mirror?
www.pcgamemods.com allows you to upload stuff that doesn’t require stupid logins for others to download

(Fusen) #11

yah looks very nice and you’ll always limit the number of downlaods you get when you use sign up for download places as no one can really be bothered however good the map is  does anyone know if any servers have this in there campign yet?

(badong) #12

very nice map…lots of attention to detail.
I haven’t played it yet but i flew around in it for a little bit. I only have two minor suggestions.
At some points it was a little bit dark. Maybe that was just me though cause i had my curtains open and it’s pretty sunny outside.
Also it suffers a little bit from what i like to call the “useless hallway disease”, meaning there are a bunch of places, usually hallways that are a little too long and don’t really serve any purpose and in the end probably won’t get played much. I know you can’t really change this at this stage since your map is already beta, but just something to keep in mind for future maps. I could be wrong though cause like I said I haven’t really played the map yet and I’m not sure what the gameplay is.

@ SiX:

If I remember correct, you originally started this map for RtCW? How long was you working on this? Over 18 Month?

(SiX) #19

Thanks for the mirror Fusen :rocker:

Berzerkr: There was a RTCW map I was working on for a while with a similar title but was scrapped after about a month due to poor planning on my part. I first started Sector47 back in september 2003… and then I started a new job which halted any real work progress on it until january this year.

(CrazyGuy) #20

Hiya Six. Glad you got this map in beta. Sweet…nice job with the fps rate
