Punishing game companies because they tend to use a “when it’s done” policy would be a no.
Honestly, whilst you may be a fan of the game and contribute to the developers income, you can’t force them to release something when they think it’s not done yet.
And I wouldn’t like them to get forced into that, I’m no xyz (Insert “evil” job position here) from the EA administration.

Makes me think of some discussions on “webcomic updates” I’ve been reading lately.

Why to hide the fact? almost ENTIRE planet is using P2P programs and have illegal copies of Mp3, DivX, stolen pictures, programs… I bet even you and almost half of SD team have something pirated on home PC. And this is nothing strange to be upset.

I buy legal copies of games if they deserve it. I bought Battlefield 2 game after I played it 3 months on pirated version. For me this is best method to test game if is worth to buy.

you’re right.

I started to “legalize” my pc about half year ago. Now most programs I use are freeware / opensource etc. Where I didn’t find corresponding freeware for commercial programms (about 10% of them) I tried to buy original. Yes, there are some exceptions with programms which costs very very much. And the most of games I play are free. In fact, I play mainly Tremulous (n1 game), because ETQW isn’t released yet :).

PC piracy is very similar to “ordinary” crime and I dont want to be a thief.

i know. but i think, ETQW and W:ET will be more different, than you thinking.

  • W:ET / ETQW
    =========
    close combat / open and large maps
    no / yes vehicles
    no / yes deployables
    very helpful trick-jumping / ???
    very similar sides / absolutely different sides

I think the recipe for ETQW is:

[(W:ET prinicples)*(Tremulous gameplay)*(Battlefield maps)]^2 = ETQW

Make it “Battlefield-sized” maps. The layout will be completely different.

Or even better, make it “huge maps”. Enough comparing has happened.

There’s an W:ET mod that allows to call ammo-/health-cabinet deployables.
And another one (not sure if it’s the same) that allows to install/construct an artillery gun.
And one has driveable vehicles.

Yes, FalckonET still got it’s driveable tanks.

The other one is RW or Realistic War in full. It had some annoying bugs though, and the community seems to have died.
