PSN Concerns

(peteXnasty) #1

First I would like to just make a small introduction for myself so people know where I am coming from. I grew up on PC gaming. From Doom 2 onward I loved FPS games and starting with Quake 2 I played them online. I have been a fan of Splash Damage for a while now and am super excited to finally play Brink.

I sling games at one of the busiest Gamestops in our entire company and before we had a single poster up, before our bosses were holding preorder contests, before any videos were in store, I was hyping Brink to anyone who loved shooters trying to being sales and attention to it.

I only own a console because my PC had a massive failure years back and I can’t afford to build a gaming machine anymore. So imagine my disappointment that tonight I will come home from the midnight launch I helped push unable to take full advantage of Brink and knowing all my friends I convinced to buy it will be the same way. I switched nearly my entire Call of Duty crew to it!

Now that I’ve wasted everyone’s time with that, my concern is that if PSN isn’t up until May 31st (#%%$&$63hdbdj$&$&!!!) and the 360 is getting a day one updae to fix graphical issues, I honestly ask the devs…what do we PS3 users need to be ready for since we will be basically blacked out for at least two more weeks? Bugs? Texture issues? Please, let us know. :frowning:

Also, all of our offline progress WILL sync up to the master servers once we are back online? I can’t imgine ANYTHING being stored locally on the PS3, you guys are too smart to give chaeeaters an open door like that.

I can barely convey in words how disappointed I am today. The game I have been waiting for all this time will be in my system tonight…but I can’t enjoy it for weeks more. Sony has missed 4 major multiplayer title releases including their own touted IP, SOCOM, and there’s no end in sight. I may start saving for that PC after all.

You can still get game updates without a connection to PSN, but you won’t be able to play online.

Not sure about the XP syncing up, will have to wait and see what the devs say!

(Slade05) #3

On the upside, your CoD crew will not be able to play CoD either!

Seriously, I`d expect local player info to be encrypted in some way.

(Angelus3K) #4

Yea I was gonna also say, even if XP sync info is stored in gamesave or gamedata, there’s not alot anyone with 3.60+ firmware can do with it.

Let cheaters cheat and get banned. I really hope XP is saved thou cos I’m going to midnight launch Thursday in UK and have taken Friday off work lol!!

Your still online on your PS3 but not on PSN. I remember my PS3 was still downloading some games from PSN even with PSN was down. So yea lol, but it does sucks its taking 40 days, but hey better to hve a secured network then have a network crashing down again.

(peteXnasty) #6

While I tend to agree…

…I want to play Brink with my damn friends and not bots!

(Angelus3K) #7

The network didn’t crash down, Sony simply turned it off. There was nothing techinically wrong with it other than that it got hacked and data stolen.

(MatthiasK75) #8

i know we can still get updates because ive downloaded some, but i dont want all my xp to get lost

Even though it could be a possibility, but what makes you think the PSN won’t be back up until May 31st?

(peteXnasty) #10

Also will we be able to download our preorder bonuses? I wanted those Doom tattoos!

(peteXnasty) #12

A possibility is that partial functionality means gaming services would be back up before the 31st, but I honestly doubt it at this point.

(Coin Op) #13

Doh! I think I will pick this game up for the 360 then.

(TheBIG_Lebowski) #14

If i didnt loath some pay to play crap and the terrible 360 i would fire my live account right back up. but i will do no such thing. guess im playing the waiting game.

(Deadpool™) #15

Id rather wait for PSN, they buy a Xsux box. Guess I will be playing offline and solo for a few weeks. By the time we get to multi-player we will all have everything and know every map. Should be quite a surprise when we play real players.

(kingchip101) #16

OK ya im totaly with u i mean i was on the x box 4 like 3 months then my gold ran out so i was like well psn is fwee so i went on there the first day it wa down  so when i heard about brink i was pumped until i though wait wth psn is down then i was like NNNNNNNOOOOOOO but there is 2 things that they might have that could make dis better A.(officaly anounced)xp is the same online and off so when u go bak online u will be all good and lv up n stuff and the 2nd thing if they r goin 2 have it is split screen so lets keep our fingers crossed it comes out 2 morow :armadillo :

I know all the cool kids flame The Other Platform (hint: they don’t, actually) - let’s not start doing that around here.

Meanwhile, anyone concerned about the PSN outage and Brink, please have a look here: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-05-09-ps3-brink-release-unaffected-by-psn-hack

Well I understand the gripes people have with the 360, but my membership is up to date and I at least have the option to choose at this point. Believe me I would rather have it for the PS3, but this is terrible news. At this point I wished I had a gaming rig, but I’ve switch to a Mac a long time ago. Holy crapola I’m stuck at a cross roads here…

trade in your ps3.
get a 360.

Thanks for the response, but my questions are still lingering

  1. will online XP be affected by the lack of a network? I.E. we may level up offline but when we finally log on we all start from square one since none of the progress was saved on the servers?
  2. same as above but with regards to challenges and unlockables
  3. will preorder bonuses still be able to be downloaded?

The patch issue is moot point since I have been reading elsewhere that people have been pushed patches through the outage, phew
