PSA: "Thread Sync" changes.

I’m confused what every one is talking about I know what v sync is b in t what is thread sync for
So I did a test - switchlevel OBJ_Dome

Thread Sync ON (supposedly One Frame Interval = OFF): 240fps
Thread Sync OFF (supposedly One Frame Interval = ON): 140fps

Something’s not right.

I had One Frame Interval OFF, after the update Thread Sync was also OFF. Never messed with config files outside of ShooterUI.ini.
Here is what I found.

ON - FPS never went below 120, and was generally around 130-140
OFF - FPS at times dips below 70, but is generally in the 80-90 range with spikes going higher

For me having it ON is more annoying, because using G-Sync with it ON makes my menus lag, although during play everything is fine, but for that FPS bump I’ll live with the menu lag.

In my INI file, with the setting in game set to ON, OneFrameThreadLag=True. When I set OneFrameThreadLag=False and went into the game, the setting had changed to OFF.

I had it False and it was Off and now I have it to True and it is Off but imo it should be set to False and be off while True is On but now True is off so my one frame lag is now off and I get less mouse lag with it off or True which was the old False meaning it is off.

So basically… what we’ve established here is the following:

  • The setting is well and truly screwed.

(Amerika) #25

I left my FPS config exactly as it was and there was zero different with my FPS. So, yeah, don’t change anything if you haven’t already.

(Supa) #26

DON’T change? Strange, I had to go completely the other way around.

I had it ON up until the update and since the update went live I lost 90 frames. I went into the .ini and changed it to OFF, and it went back to my normal FPS.

This is from the patch notes:
“Changed name of One Frame Interval to Thread Sync and inverted the behavior
Off - Improved performance at the cost of input latency
On - Reduced input latency as the cost of performance”

                                                               ---EDIT---

Completely disregard this, I am mistaken. While I was testing both on and off options, I failed to realize that the update activated V-Sync. V-Sync is what caused the issue, not Thread Sync. I am now using “On” as I always have. My apologies.

Just by reading the patch notes though, shouldn’t this be incorrect? If you had it on before, wouldn’t you switch it off since the devs “inverted” the behavior?

—ANOTHER EDIT—
Not sure if anyone else noticed this. Restarted game and tested 3 times to confirm:

I just found that in the main menu it read that Thread Sync is ON and V-Sync is OFF (what I want them to be) HOWEVER, on the in-game menu it reads they are both on. Menu bug? Also, why are there two Thread Sync and V-Sync options?

All of my WHY

(Supa) #28

I know, right? Have you or anyone else ever seen anyone complain or not understand what this option does? Just unnecessary confusion.

Before the update I was able to get stable 100FPS with everything set to the highest. Now I get 60ish with drops to 40 when playing on Minimum. Game is unplayable for me ATM.
