PSA: No moderators around, how to deal with the spam-bots.

So it seems our lovely forum has been hit with another wave of the Korean spam-bots again, and as the moderators are usually sleeping around this time of day (early morning, EU), these threads seem to run rampant for a few hours until they are around…

But there is something we can all do!

Rule 1: Do NOT comment on the threads! - This only bumps them further.
Rule 2: Flag for spam.

With no comments and 5 “spam” flags, the thread is removed for moderation, this means they will be gone from the pages until approved! If you don’t know how to flag for spam: Simply view the bottom of the post, and click the “flag” button (far left) and a menu will pop up - now click “spam”, and you are done!

If we all do this, we will rid these annoying spam-bots very quickly. :slight_smile: Just wanted to let everyone know <3

Rally up and flag 'em! They’ve dropped a Spamstrike on the following areas:

  • Map Discussion
  • Game Guides
  • Bug Reporting

I went there recently and they had gone undetected as of now.

Our moderators are gunna have a lot of work when they wake up, I’ve flagged at least 50 of these threads by now including ones last night. I’m glad to see our community come together and use the amazing mechanics of this forum to get them sent to Moderation so that others do not need to witness them when they arrive.

Just planted flags in Map Discussion, Game Guides, and Bug Reporting, looks like other sections have not been hit as of yet, but I’m doing regular sweeps of the entire forums to catch them. We’ve done well so far, let’s keep it up!

And to ANYONE thinking they cannot make a difference, please just flag these threads, it takes very little time and with 5 flags(And NO comments) the post is taken down, you’ll be making the forums a better place for everyone, including yourself.

No new ones, no, but Map Discussion is still littered with spam threads. After that we’ll be all clear.

I flagged all of the Map discussion bot threads.

They are all with 4, we need someone else to flag them!

Should just set up an auto delete script for posts containing those characters, or a set of those characters in sequence.

I propose this thread to be stickied on all sections, so people know what to do with spammers. Just flag them and move on.

That’s risky, and frankly a lot of work… it’s way easier for 5 members of the forums to go and report all the spam threads, get them taken down for moderation, and then we can all live in peace. Human judgement is far superior.

FYI, it’s Korean, not Chinese haha. Trust me, Chinese Mandarin is my second language and I can speak and write fluently.

Aight, though didn’t have time to read all of it. Maybe I can inform you guys with more accurate information (rather than Google Translate) what in the world they are spamming cause it’s sooo…idk weird, misplaced dunno.

Better to avoid all translations, they are spam bots after all and really any attention given to them is only detrimental to our forums, they’re pretty easy to identify so when you do just report as spam and move on.

No sense trying to figure out the logic of a bot who has probably spammed the same message across dozens of forums, they don’t have a target, just a quota.

Sorry, folks, I will increase my vigilance for this sort of thing. For now, they are all banned and their content removed. I’m a part of the community Steam group, sometimes I’m on there if you need to get a message to me.

@CC_FANG It’s quite alright :3 We understand moderator’s aren’t around 24/7 XD You guys deserve at least a 10 minute break every now-and-again… :wink: LOL!

But it’s not a problem :3 we tried to band together to rid some of the pages from spam for now. Thank you for banning their content though! ^.^ Appreciated, as always :slight_smile:
