ps3/xbox360 controls :)
methinks xbox controllers work or will work at launch, SD are pretty keen on making games accessible
some people are physically challenged and controllers may allow them to play when a mouse and keyboard prove unwieldy:cool:
not a useless post at all
perhaps, but since this is geared towards competitive play, it will be infinitely frustrating for someone on a gamepad. Consider that it is highly likely that at least half the regular players you’ll see on any given server will be sporting a pro gaming mouse… and half of them actually have enough skill to put that gaming mouse to proper use.
Add to that the fact that the Splash games of the past have created somewhat elitist communities on any given server. And by that I mean the folks that are regulars stick together. Anyone new that starts to tip matches unfavourably against a cohesive team environment tends to feel alienated, and eventually made to feel unwelcome… and often this happens because the newbie don’t even try to communicate (adequately)… which makes quick access to a keyboard essential.
And, anyone else correct me if I’m wrong here, but I’ve always felt the majority in ET games do NOT want to hear uninvited voiping in game. Those you know and like are one thing (in moderation too), but to have a complete stranger chatttering over the game, even if it’s practical… people tend to want them to go back to CoD and TF2 and whatever other games are known for annoying tweens blathering on over a mic.
so we should tell people, if yu ain’t pwnzor like me, don’t even bother trying ?
pull your head out mate
There is a difference between a game “being good for competition” and a game that is “ONLY good for competition”. If DB only attracts competitive gamers then it will likely fail as a business venture.
the reason, is that i have a bit problem with the aiming. and it’s not that i cant play with mouse and keyboard :3
my response was more to the “useless thread” aspect, SD is partnered with an access group
True, but that difference becomes vague once you look at the attitude of any game community. And even casual pubs had a competitive nature to the gameplay in W:ET and ETQW… that doesn’t mean it will be inaccessible to less skilled players, but I"m betting that in general it won’t be fun for anyone that needs to rely on a gamepad for play.
Everyone knows there’s a strong degree of contempt amongst PC FPS’ing towards FPS’ing with a gamepad. I mean I don’t mind twiddling through Dead Trigger on my phone, but I still have that knee jerk reaction of “gamepad on a PC FPS??? PREPOSTEROUS!!!”
Got to consider the marketing aspect too. It’s already going to be judged harshly on 2 things before anyone even looks at it:
[ul]
[li]It’s the follow up game after Brink, which received plenty of bad reviews and reactions (as misinformed as they all were…)
[/li][li]It’s F2P and possibly P2W (not that it will be… but everyone will be wary of that particular issue)
[/li][/ul]
Brink was a perfect example of how you simply can’t give too much credit towards the intelligence of the gaming community as it stands these days. When it comes to marketing the general demographic of gamers need to be told what to think and what NOT to think. It’s too late to consider a half way point, CoD has made that a standard mentality within the games community (especially amongst games “journalism” sites).
That this is a PC exclusive is a big deal. All the trappings of a native PC FPS have to go along with it, at least on release. And yes, that does include a the prospect of it being used for serious competitive use.
I daresay just seeing “gamepad supported” in the specs could rouse alot of mental defects into thinking this is going to be dumbed down and crappy.
