PS3 version locked save file, no LAN?

(AutomaticSnake) #1

Yo people, i’m one of the hardcore KZ2 players looking forward to Brink after the fail that was Killzone 3. Brink is not an exclusive to PS3 so i’m a bit worried that there will be cheating like there is in the multi plat COD noob games. I heard that KZ2 didn’t have any hacking because the save file was locked and it didn’t support LAN… will Brink be the same?

And BTW… will there be clan matches in Brink?

Thx.

Dont really play console but ill try to heklp and hopefully someone can come and fix any mistakes i make:
Clan matches seem very likely as im pretty sure SD said their will be things to support clans in game, and SD previous games have had clan support.
I dont see how multiplat can affect cheating/hacking :\Also didnt PS3 get cracked and that resulted in a lot of hacking issues?
I dont understand what u mean by locked saves. And the only way i can see LAN affecting hacking is if the host sets different rules on the server. so how would no lan stop hacking :\

I probably didnt answer many of ur quesitons, but i tried thumbs up

If by “locked saves” you mean encrypted, then I don’t see how that helps prevent cheating. The save has nothing to do with hit detection or client server communication. Keep in mind, the encryption key is stored somewhere in the game, so unless SD has to type in a password for you before you play, you can just grab the key and decrypt the save data.

Well i dont know how they do it, i just heard its why kz2 hack free and why CoD games on ps3 got hacks. In an interview about kz3 a dev said kz3 wont support LAN just like kz2 so ppl dont cheat. So i have no idea, but i can say that kz2 was hack free :D.

I see you guys getting this on PC, are u worried about cheaters? i used to be a PC gamer, played Americas Army a lot :D, punk buster helped a bit but once in a while i remember seeying people with aim bots, super speed, and even flying lol…

Not really, ETQW had very few cheaters (depends on who you ask) and the blatantly obvious ones were easily caught. The others were crap even with hacks so it doesn’t really matter.

CoD MP cheats

“Call of Duty 4 makes you unlock weapons, weapon attachments and mods, camouflage, and challenges. Well there is a way around that because all of the data is stored client-side. To unlock all weapons for Call of Duty 4 multiplayer so that you don’t have to level up follow these easy instructions.”

For PC, more recent CoD don’t store this data client-side anymore.

Or it seems.

Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops are tied to your steam account not saved on your PC. So all your progress is saved and be accessed anywhere you log in, the only thing that isnt saved is your controls and class load outs.

I am seriously hoping Brink does this as well or it will be a huge let down.

It quite clearly says in the news release that it uses steam cloud for save data. If it didn’t… HUGE LET DOWN is a HUGE dramatization.
