Proxy's ninja rush

(DirtyMedal) #1

You know what I mean, an objective is finished and a quick class (most of the time proxy) run quickly past the enemies which alive and before the dead ones respawn and plant the c4/ deliver the objective. One of the reasons why I love proxy.
However yesterday when we won underground (we were two proxies so one on barricades and one on c4 so it was fast) an enemy started lecturing us on why “proxy is the worst class” “you suck at FPS” “you shouldn’t have a computer” and other gems.

I didn’t really cared but it made me wonder: do you consider it “playing dirty” or “being a dick”?
Just looking to hear opinions

It’s playing dirty if these are the only options you’d consider it fall under. Being a dick is something like not giving ammo or reviving when you are playing the merc whose role is just that. Playing dirty is using things to your advantage, like respawn times in this instance. It’s not being a dick, it’s using your head(Pun totally intended).

(Cappe) #3

It’s “creative” use of game mechanics so nothing wrong with that.

I’d do it too if I had the chance to do the objective faster.

(Viquel) #4

I was lectured that it’s called a First Person Shooter, and using explosives would be against the game’s spirit. I’m almost certain they tried to be funny. almost.

A ninja-plant only works if executed properly, ideally directly after the enemy spawn wave, so they would have to run back. The own team would ideally not kill enemies that are not running towards the plant, but that almost never happens intentionally  (try it, it’s fun to not gib/kill the enemies so they fight longer when the objective is in peril)

“Playing dirty” = Using Proxy as you describe (merc’s abilities to tactical advantage)
“Being a dick” = Saying “You are scrub”, “you suck at FPS” “you shouldn’t have a computer” and other gems.

I don’t think it’s either playing dirty or being a dick. If you run past enemies and they don’t chase you or see you, it’s their fault.

(Eox) #7

Why would it be bad to manage to go past the enemy team to play the objective behind their back ? If anything, it’s “good job” to the Proxy player, and “bloody rubbish” to the opposite team.

As long as you don’t troll, cheat and insult people in game, it’s all right.

(Gi.Am) #8

Your job was to plant C4, theirs was to defend the plantsite.
You did your job, they didn’t do theirs.

Simple as that.

There is a reason why good teams will fall back as soon as there is no time to defuse, or suicide to catch the new spawnwave. To prevent a fast plant.

(PeneTraitor) #9

I always try to do this. Even as Fragger. If you can get far enough it rolls the spawn and gives your team a better shot. If they don’t fall back to defend that is their problem. did they want you to ask if they were ready before you planted?

(Funkmaster_Rick) #10

If the opposing team failed to cover their backlines, lanes of retreat, and simply didn’t cut off your teams’ avenues of advancement, I’d say it’s their own damn fault.

It’s neither dirty, nor being a dick, it’s just cheesy.
I don’t care much for winning and I prefer longer rounds, so I’m not a fan of the ninja rush you’re talking about.

(CCP115) #12

I thought you were talking about that really dick move, when Proxies will run up to any encampment you have, drop a mine, then just die. We have to retreat, because there’s no way to “defuse” a mine. And it will prime, and then explode if I don’t do anything about it.

I want a way to defuse mines that haven’t primed yet. Maybe an augment for engineers only.

(Ghosthree3) #13

There’s also that dick move where people play Proxy.

I see nothing wrong with it…people like who the OP is talking about are wrong…are a problem with this game…they just want to go play Rambo and shoot everyone.

Well objectives win/lose games and people need to pay attention to objectives…to much of that not happening.

(Badger_Commander) #15

There’s nothing wrong with it exactly, I’d say it’s close to playing dirty, perhaps on the line. My issue would be that I don’t think it’s in the spirit of a good challenging match, a rush or a stomp isn’t fun and has little reward, it’s something of an empty victory. The best matches are the ones that come down to the last seconds, where you’re fighting for every metre of the battlefield.

(Grave_Knight) #16

Salty players like that should be ignored. I guarantee you that his teammates think he’s nothing more than salty trash for his opinion. And what you guys did wasn’t even that Dirty; not compared to Bridge and just sitting outside the drug lab just before the EV makes it there and rush taking the objective.

(SteelMailbox) #17

I got one word for you, Strats.
Strats do not count as cheating nor playing dirty they count as trying to do your job.
If the other team’s strat was not good enough they lose you win nothing wrong about that.
