Proxy's mines shouldn't damage you if you blow them up

(bubblesKeyboard) #1

I’ve abused a loop hole where Proxy becomes one of the best slayers.

Step 1: Run a corner
Step 2: Place mine in enemy’s face
Step 3: Run back

They either 1) Try to blow it up which damages them and takes 1 less shotty blast or 2) Chase me, end up running over armed mine and blowing up

What do you think?

They decreased the arming time so you didn’t become an instant close range Fragger with an instantly armed mine, the case is that since its now your mine for shooting it, you’ve just blown up a mine in your face, behold the life of a 4 second grenade tossing Fragger, on the other hand there’s augmentations that limit the self explosion and explosion damage you take. I just think the mine should count for both proxy and the person who shot it if it explodes, damaging proxy enemies and shooters enemies in the process and not counting it just like a suicide for the proxy if someone shot the mine whole she’s near it.

Yes. And another I believe that shooting mines should be harmful to your enemies - if they walk over their team’s mine and I shoot it they should die.

(athleticInspiration) #4

^^^Agreed in full. I was so surprised that this wasn’t the case when I shot multiple mines while an enemy was standing on top of it. I thought it was a glitch at first until I realized thats just the games mechanics.

The other problem with being damaged by mines you shoot is that if a mine is placed in a tight stairwell or in some other way where the only angle you have to shoot it forces you stand right next to it, then you literally cannot blow up the mine safely unless you use a merc with explosives.

That strategy takes time and actually will only work if you ambush the guy or the opposite team. When I try to do it in front of an enemy player I very oftenly end dead before I have the time to shoot the mine. I don’t consider it as OP, and Fragger’s grenade are much more efficient at clearing an area since you don’t take that much time to pull out and shoot the mine, grenades can be thrown much farther and you don’t especially need to ambush the team (I shall remember to everyone that nades can be cooked). So I wouldn’t touch it.

I made another thread about it but there are blatant problems with her mines.

  1. You shoot a mine where she is standing and she dies: Registers as her suicide

  2. You use an explosive to destroy her mine and she dies with her mine: Registers as your kill

  3. You shoot a mine where enemy teammates are: Nothing happens

  4. You use an explosive to destroy a mine where enemies are: You kill them

5)You shoot a mine where your teammates are: Teammates die and is registered as Proxy’s kills
6) You use an explosive to destroy a mine where teammates are: Nothing happens

Oh ! Well, that’s another issue, and a good one.

  1. Should count as your kill.
  2. and 3) are fine IMO.
  3. Shouldn’t be a thing at all if 3) is kept as it is (are you sure it’s a kill with the mine though ?).
  4. If it’s an ally mine that kills your teammates, it should be fixed ASAP !!! Too much trolling possibilities. If so, you should also remove it from the list and send a ticket a the support instead or something, in order to not give ideas to a couple of trolls. If it’s an enemy mine though, it’s fine.
  5. Have to be fixed if it’s an enemy mine. If not it’s okay.

I believe if you shoot an enemy mine near teammates it shouldnt damage them but it is debatable.

Take Blackllight Retribution for instance. If you shoot an emeny mine they count as yours. So it’s only able to kill yourself or enemies. So if you’re good you can safe teammates who didn’t saw the mine by shooting it before it triggers or punish people who try to throw it in your face by shooting it mid-air and blasting away the thrower.

But here in DB? I usually play medic. So I stay a few feet away from the hot spots and keep my team alive. But when I see that a mine was thrown to the feet of my allies I have two options:

  1. Do nothing and let them blow up (not a good choise)
  2. Shoot the Mine to “neutralize” (what a joke) it and kill my teammates myself (also not a good choise)

See the problem?

I would suggest that the mines work like in Blacklight: Retribution
or
If you shoot them you really neutralize them. Not make them blow up.
Like the Demoman’s sticky bombs from TF2. If you shoot those things they just pop out of existence and don’t do any harm at all.

Sadly no one else seems to see it this way
