I’ve been absolutely wrecked by experienced Proxys before, and it has nothing to do with their mines. Why on earth would these players waste time using mines in 1v1 combat when they can kill faster with their primary weapon? I hate to break it to you but either the Proxys were either toying with you or they weren’t actually good Proxys.
Proxy should only get one mine.
If I see a Proxy switch to her mines all you have to do is super jump during the fight and keep firing while they are busing finishing up the throw animation then dealing with the switch animation back to the gun. They tend to be dead long before the latter animation even gets started.
A suicide proxy trying to throw mines into people works on unaware people who aren’t quite experienced yet just like how people stepping on her mines in general work.
Proxy is the weakest engineer in the game, mines are countered by looking down.

It’s as simple as that sadly. They just aren’t a good mechanic against competent players. Any time I step on a mine after the first I immediately facepalm because my dumbass that didn’t watch what I was doing.
If anything, she needs buffs to stand up in comp play. As of now she’s just completely outclassed.

Proxy needs to get buff instead of nerf. If you saw first proxy, you may just predict where bomb is set: 1)objective, 2)secondary objective, 3) 4-5 possible corners. That’s it, now you just blow those mines and proxy becomes weak engineer. Those mine also have another problem - proxy can’t fight in those corners herself because any somewhat experienced player will detonate the mine and at least damage her, at best - instakill.
If you throw a mine into enemy and manage to shoot it, you deserve a kill. Fragger, Nader, Fletcher will do similar things better, easier and from a safer position.
Proxy needs some complex buff to make her competitive to other engineers. Could it be removal of detonate sound or light on mines untill you get augments for that. Idk.
Currently Proxy is on free rotation. In previous one we saw a lot of turrets due to other engineer in rotation. In next one you’ll probably see Fletcher and find out how much more dangerous sticky bombs thrown into enemies and traps behind the corners. After free rotation changes you wouldn’t see a lot of Proxies.
I’m begining to see more Proxys just dropping mines and shooting them as makeshift grenades than actual landmines…
If they simply forced a mine to fizzle when shot (ONLY if not armed yet) I would have no problem with proxy. It’s only when the mines are NOT used for their intended purpose which frustrates me.
In TF2, the mini sentry was a massive issue for its spam-y-ness. This WAS until its nerf of ‘unable to survive any enemy fire until fully constructed’ which took a comparable time to the arming time of proxy’s mines.
I don’t care how many times proxy throws out mines, as long as she isn’t rewarded for putting them in super-obvious places such as open hallways.
