Proxy mine overhaul idea

(handyHeirloom) #1

Proxy’s mines are very good for defence, no denying that. However, if one is aware of a mine on an objective, they are forced to back out several feet away and shoot it, exposing themselves to the enemy team and delaying them by several seconds. My suggetsion is to have proxy’s mines have a slightly lowered cooldown, say 2-3 seconds, trigger very slightly slower, say half a second, and not explode when melee attacked. This would encourage people to listen for mines and give slightly more counterplay.

trigger very slightly slower, say half a second

Uh, no. Even now you should have the reaction time to c-jump when you hear the mine allowing almost any merc to survive the mine.

slightly lowered cooldown, say 2-3 seconds

Wouldnt say no to this, tho.

However, if one is aware of a mine on an objective, they are forced to back out several feet away and shoot it, exposing themselves to the enemy team and delaying them by several seconds.

If you are playing against good people that is literally the only use you have for the mines. I havent died to a mine in a while and its Proxy freeweek. Of course, if you run blindly into any room and around any corner you will die to a mine sooner or later, but thats your fault then.

What I hate is spotting a Proxy mine but there being no conceivable position from which to shoot it without being caught in the blast.

Oh, and shooting a Proxy mine and the blast killing a teammate. I hate that.

I love reading about desired mine nerfs/changes. Gives me a sapper with a smile hard-on.

Shows me that shes still relevent and disliked and boy do I love trolling with her.

No, there is one other use. Early warning system. It’s also why I wish Proxy’s mines were marked for other allies so they too can take advantage of the early warning system.

I dont know about you but when one of my mines blow that im using defensively (which is rare) I let my team know where it blew up at.

Whats with this defensive mine thing anyway? I thought proxy mines were used to throw into groups of people and be shot before it arms or used against healing stations. Ya know, throw a mine down on top of a station, wait for people to run over and get health, watch explosion, run off with yo troll face on.

they could add a defuse option to the mine. make engineers defuse faster than other mercs. the defuse time should be long enough to have a balanced risk/reward.
of course mine wont go of if you start defusing, but should go of instantly if you start defusing but do not finish. again, risk/reward.

btw, i think the mine is fine as it is now. the above is just if a change somehow was necessary.

I just did this today in Terminal. I laughed, helped him up, then laughed some more.
Then i killed myself with my own mine.

Lots of things I hate with proxy mines…

No cast time and very quick to activate - proxy becomes a martyrdom and drops one every time she’s about to die, often ends up with at least one kill for her.

Shooting an enemies mines and killing an opponent doesn’t give you kill credit.

Like someone said; mines being placed in areas where you can’t actually shoot it without blowing up yourself.

Mines sometimes require 20 bullets all at different angle before it realizes it has actually been shot and explodes.

So all in all…

-They should have to have a setup time, so you can’t just mine someones face.

-Who ever shoots the mine that kills someone gets credit.

-Mines can be disarmed by crouching beside them. - Solves the objective awareness problem you mention.

  • Mines need a bigger hit box when shot at.

-There is a setup time (the mine takes time to arm)

-Fair enough although I do like it being a “suicide” because that person loses points. Troll factor.

-I can get behind this given the defuse time is fair. Risk/reward being defuser isnt shooting and left vunerable but no boom.

-I have zero issues shooting mines. Perhaps learning its sweet spot might be to your advantage.

Everyone wants to nerf the booms because the booms make the booty pop.

Proxys mines seem fine to me. I find Bushwhacker to be the better choice for me at the minute tbh.

I hate more when you spot a mine and a team mate goes charging in like a madman and blows you both up in the process.

Funny you mention that, I have a lot of bloodstains on that hallway leading to Underground last. Many of them because I was trying to find the least inconceivable position from which to shoot the mine when a Fragger fuckin’ Leeroys his ass through there.

Ok I just found out that any merc can survive the landmine by simply long jumping. This is ridiculous, if this is real and intentional, it’s going to make proxy useless once everyone else finds out. The landmine should kill any merc that runs over it.

Instead of Pineapple Juggler, she should get Bigger Blast or at least Armor Piercing for the Hochfir SMG (which in theory will work only on the EV, and only on the maps where she is against the EV; although I wouldn’t mind if all Kek-10 wielding mercs get Armor Piercing).
