Proximity mines not registering enemy position properly?

(vdll) #1

I’ve noticed this quite a long time ago: rushing past proximity mine results in receiving too much damage to targets very far from it in the moment of blast. I tried sprinting and long-jumping with various classes, but I always end up with just a sliver of health left wich seems a bit off considering the distance. Comparing rushing past mine to a situation when you blow the mine by shooting it, same distance seems to inflict different ammount of damage.

Am I seeing things? If not, is this a bug or feature? (i.e. intended to make Untrackable perk a little useful)?

i think it might have to do with latency. when you run past the mine it feels like you are way out of the blast radius, but in fact youbare cinsideravly closer. i noticed it today with a random 200ping: mine would seemingly kill me long after i left the area.

it looks fine froma 3rd perspective: people rub ocer mines and they die

Yep, same with other explosives in general, died to quite a few grenades and stickies because I thought I was out of the range.

I hear you, but I’m (almost) always below 50 ms (generally avoiding servers with high ping players) and still this issue is very consistent. Also, when I spot a mine round the corner, I’m able to easily trigger it and withdraw behind the wall unharmed, which would speak against latency problem, i guess.

edit: additionally, deployed mines are stationary so they are supposed to be registered by server quite a time ago, unlike midair stickies.

I took a screenshot of one of those bizzare situations:

I was sprinting upstairs and past the mine, yet still got killed while being ‘in safety’ behind the box/round the corner. I remember exactly when mine triggered and depicted it with red star thingie. It really feels like damage sort of sticks to you no matter how far you go.

The detection radius after the recent update that buffed mines makes them a lot harder to escape if you go over them. And I do agree that I believe latency can affect how much damage you take.

However, one positive has come out of the change. Mines are a lot easier to trigger now that are planted on stairs from a safer distance. Mines that were just around a corner couldn’t be triggered without risking yourself before if you wanted to clear it fast and don’t have a solid shot on it. Now they are a lot easier to deal with I’ve found.

Since the buff I have found the mines are now the most annoying thing in game.

Proxy is becoming the new suicide bomber and those mines can take out a whole room easy enough.

There is no escape! >.>

Yeah, the classic Battlefield 2 CQB “bunnyhop and toss” of claymores and mines has arrived.
