props_skyportal ?:-o

I beg some urgent help here, i got some good ideas on skyportal use (well… in my opinion), but i cant get it to work. All i get is HailOfMirrors thingy, and never seen none of brushes surrounding prop_skyportal ent (however, a copy of my primary terain showed up once).

Has anybody used this feature successfuly with Enemy Territory? If so maybe a tiny small .map file so i could examine it?

Does it work anyway?

Devs, maybe?

(done forum search, nothing of use though)

just stick to the tutorials

Here’s a tutorial: http://www.nibsworld.com/rtcw/tutorial_skybox.shtml

Thanx, but Ive written before that I done search. The good ol’ well-known tutorial mentioned by Shai just doesnt work for me, and a few other ppl. It must be missing something important.

he wrote tutorialS! maybe there are some others on that topic, I cant find em though.

Maybe some of you got a *.map file with this effect? I’d appreciate.

Wils posted a .map file with examples awhile back. But the link to the file is broken. Have a look at this thread: http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=658&highlight=propsskyportal

Thanx for your replies, but aargh, my English sucx so, i wrote three times that i done forum search, so I ran into that thread and figured out the link is broken already.

Good news is, i finally managed it :), well, sort of…
I placed my fake skybox INSIDE, my main skybox, and it worked!

The well known tutorial states, that fake skybox should be little to the side and above the main,
Some people say, it should be far away from main skybox.
Wills says, it should be adjacent to main skybox,
I placed it inside,

The Conclusion is: The fake skybox should be placed anywhere

The most important thing to consider is doing the full -vis compile.

Your HOM may have be being caused by having no sky over your skyportal.

IIRC, you need to put sky textures over the top of a prop_skyportal, because it actually replaces all normal sky textures completely.

That link to the skyportal tutorial that Shai posted is a real good one. I used it before when I was trying to make one as an experiment, and it worked perfectly for my mini test et map.

As long as you follow the directions it gives you, you shouldnt have a problem.

LOL. n1

I’m gonna give this tutorial a whorl tonight and see if I can’t get it to work as well. I got a perfect idea for a sky_portal.

I have played around with the skyportal, But first attempts caused the HOM and after I applied a fog to my map the sky is the color of my fog! The HOM might be there but the fog disables the HOM effect. Well now I sort of like my map with the fog color sky.

The \r_showtris 2 shows that there is no skybox drawn at the sky at all. so that gives a little more performance for my map. I received results but unwanted ones.

BTW. I followed the same tutorial.
