Proposing solutions against people being a d!ck

(Lumi) #1

Here’s my issue. Many players and not just newcomers do not follow the best advice given by the tutorial of just simply not being a d!ck. Therefore I have two proposals that would improve the situation.

In fact, there are many players who never go through the tutorial and don’t know what the objectives are and how Aura or Skyhammer provide health and ammo. They are at a loss and most likely will be confused and leave the game forever, or they will stick to it and repeat the beginner mistakes for a very long time. That’s why I think that no multiplayer mode should be available until you have beaten the tutorial once. I know it’s removing free will, but this is a complex game in which understanding all key elements is crutial to enjoying the game.

Then my second proposal would be to induce penalties in cash rewards at the end of a game if the ratio between health/ammo giving to self vs others is higher than 1.2. This way we would remove all the players that consistently give themselves ammo or health and ignore the rest of the team. It would reduce the amount of those players or at least penalize them for it.

////////////////////////////////

Edit:Regarding support XP, I believe that it is reductive in its current state (only HP replenished and revives being considered). Why not include ammo replenishment. This way, not only medics but also skyhammer, arty and kira get support XP, which they are in fact providing! And maybe that exta XP incentive will also motivate those d!ck people to share their ammo. Another consequence is the easier acomplishment of the Waterboy missions, which are really tough to finish right now as opposed to the missions requiring combat XP or game mode XP (those I always manage to do in 2 or 3 games). Finally, sticking with your teammates could also be added to support XP.

That’ll be all, thanks for reading.

Support exp already includes ammo supplies.

I played enemy territory i don’t need a tutorial to tell me how to crouch and shoot. I skipped it. People who can read will find out easily that skyhammer can drop ammo

Penalties are always bad! You can lone wolf and flank 5 people every death and you did way more for you team than anyone else. It’s also only punishing support players. In the end just less people will play support.

Giving ammo already provides support xp and it also scales with the amount of ammo you give, do you even play the game?

Its a cute idea to give people penalties for bad ammo/hp ratios, but what if nobody wants your ammo, or you are an Aura tanking damage on your healing station?

I’d much rather REWARD high give/take ratios, where the best medic who gave out all his medpacks and revived left&right gets rewarded more.

People will always find some way to be stupid. You just have to give them time to figure out what they are doing. If you want to help make guides on how to get better.

Today is way way better than how it was on the first day of open beta.

I do play this game alot, but never noticed the support xp given to ammo packs. My bad there.

You’re right! Reward for it would be much better. Hadn’t really considered nobody needing it as I always need either ammo or health and assumed that many people are in the same situation.

Stupidity isn’t a crime up to today and it probably will never be.

Your idea is a good start but as Sniff said, people will find their way to be stupid. And even if you force the tutorial down the players throat you will still have a good chunk that will have forgotten straight away every single thing they saw and learned

In the end there isn’t really an option to sort out those players as you will even have “experienced” players who think they are funny “trolling” people by simply denying revives and healthpacks on purpose.

The only workaround for such problems and for a lot of other issues would be a hidden ranked system in the pub matchmaking. With that you would have players of similar skill and efficiency together. New players might be bothered with idiots that way but it’s a kind of different pain when you’re months in the gameplay and still have to put up with people who think that the K/D equals the skill and have no freaking clue what teamplay is.

@sniff and @R5on11c

I’m not raging against stupid people, but you have to agree with me that many stupid errors due to lack of knowledge would be removed with the simple tutorial rite of passage. Plus, if someone feels compelled to skip it then they definitely won’t visit any forums for tutorials or what not, because why skip the basic game tutorial if you were going to do that.

I get that crouch and movement everyone knows, but then SD should maybe split up the tutorial into two parts: basic and advanced. And force at least the advanced section with the ability explanations.

Just wouldn’t want to see this game’s comunity become like LOL’s. Because who wouldn’t get upset to see the same errors being made over and over…

Finally, maybe removing any KD from the game stats would help focussing people’s minds on the objective instead. Maybe it would also help tp add a podium at the end of games, with support player of the game, combat player of the game and game mode player of the game, to expose those that have played well. And for those who don’t want to completely reject the KD, then make it much smaller in the UI to remove focus from it.

Encourage Learning! Make guides and videos. You can reach tens of thousands of people that way.

(R5on11c) #10

That’s why i think either a Hidden or an obvious rank is something that would either sort out the players or encourage them to do better when they see that they get demoted.

Again, if they don’t care about the base tutorial, how will they care about further tutorials.

And I would if I had the apropriate gear, but right now I can barely play the game let alone record it, but if I could I would because I like making videos. But writing a formal guide is just too dull for me and I believe that many people even don’t bother reading it.

PS: your reach estimate seems too high XD

My Dirty bomb videos have about 15k-20k views combined.

The forum threads get about 50-200 views each. If you post 10 guides 500-2000 people will see it at minimum. If it’s popular a lot more. If Missmurder posts on it it tends to get a lot more.

(Nail) #13

you’re already penalized for not doing the tutorial, no Aura or Skyhammer

(Lumi) #14

Are you saying one needs to do the tutorial to unlock the mercs? I dodn’t recall that…

(Noble_One) #15

ill agree on the tutorial part since in my time playing i still find that people playing skyhammer dont know they can give ammo and the reason being is because they skipped the tutorial. aura’s healing station though is eh since you HAVE to go over to it and some/most players just dont (for what ever reason /shrug). so yeah i would say playing the tutorial should be a mandatory thing.

(_Sniff_) #16

I think most know they can. I just don’t think most care
