Proposal : Time limit on how long a player can hold the deliverables objective

(Anaconda) #1

Ok,

So over the past few days, I’ve had several long matches completely ruined by players who grab the objective, like on Trainyard, and instead of delivering them to the objective, they drag them back to the first attacker spawn and sit there, not moving. Since there is no TKing in the game, we are stuck, unable to win because one guy is holding the objective hostage. Vote kicks usually fail, so there’s that. I think they are helping a friend on the defending team get “X number of wins” mission, but its really irritating to play a whole match and be unable to finish because some guy is holding the objective hostage in your spawn.

So, I propose, we put a time limit. Like, if you hold on to the objective for longer than 5 minutes, your character will automatically drop it and be unable to pick it up for another minute. I think this would really make the game a lot better overall.

What do you guys think?

They would just take it somewhere, drop it and pick it back up again. And it would be hard to do total time held. Not to mention, after 5 minutes, your round is already ruined.

Just report anybody who does this to https://support-dirtybomb.nexon.net/hc/en-us until in-game reporting is put into place.

I don’t know about this… this can be kinda hard to do, maybe if the person doesn’t move around with the package for a certain while, they aren’t allowed to carry it anymore?

Instead of putting that kind of band-aid, I guess improving the voting system would be better. As of now, votes are only successful if the Yes take the absolute majority, including the non expressed voices. For votekicking, only the expressed votes should be considered in my opinion. Maybe with some limit, but that should do the trick.

Trolls will always find a way. A suitable kick system is the only real fix to this sort of thing. Must have been annoying though!

(Yes) #6

No. Why do people always want the game to be designed around what trolls do?

(Sorotia) #7

It’s no fun losing after hard work to get to the end just because some loser wants to rain on everyone elses parade.

Had a game a while back where the guy would literally follow around the carrier and if he died, would grab it and run it right back to its spawn point…we literally won it with seconds left on the clock.

Not fun to lose a winning match because one person gets off on ruining it for everyone else…

So? With this idea, the troll can still waste over 5 minutes and only negatively affect legit players.

If SD, or any game dev, balanced their game around what trolls do then soon enough no one would be able to do anything.

http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20121126064239/borderlands/images/7/78/Torgue_Echo.pngWhy not creating a force barrier on the map some meters behind the pickup spot and if someone crosses it, the objective explodes? And if someone is holding it long enough, there is a button on the EV to blow up the objective and spawn a new one for the teammates.

any system can be exploited if one is determined. In order for the game to function You can only put in systems that encompass reasonable actions and considerations.

People acting outside what is reasonable by being disruptive obviously will pop up but thats why we have a kick vote.

Kick votes dont work? They are the way to deal with the issue so that is what needs fixing. This is not just about game mechanics! Its also about community education.

We need to educated the community on how the kick vote etiquette works and improve the system. Official DB vids on the subject perhaps?

Tho when we talk about community being responsible and u see people using the flag action for posts as personal aggressive actions it seems we have a long way to go

(Fleshpound) #11

More like objective resets(with explosion killing the player who does it) and cannot be picked for 5 seconds with credit penalty on “trolling player”(that is always going to leave a mark). That button would be good for trolls.

My suggestion would be more “rewarding”.

(LifeupOmega) #12

Yeah I read the OP and only thought about creating an invisible barrier behind the objective area, and running it through there just resets the objective to its pick up point.

So you’re looking at the hill to second point on Trainyard, defender’s spawn on Bridge last, and back down the road from the EV’s stop point on Chapel.

Seriously though where are you finding these people?

Just fix the solution that we already have. Vote Kick.

(Dirmagnos) #14

Votekick fix this, votekick fix that.
Game needs a proper reporting system and properly assembled rule list. So that all those losers would simply be reported and banned, as they deserve.
Explosions, timers, barriers, and similar “solutions” simply wont work due to players attitude. The same attitude that result in things like farming or voting “no” to kick an obvious cheater or doing this crap with objective.
Only way to fix it is to let all the players know that such attitude will not be tolerated, otherwise its gonna be equal to fixing a dam with a finger - plug one hole and they will instantly find another and nothing will really change.
